Oh! You mean I have to make -another- decision?

Dang! You are one serious taskmaster! :wag:

So the poll goes until Sunday night and by Monday we'll have a book choice, cool. I can't wait to buy another book.

How about Johnny Panic and the Bible of Dreams? (perhaps her best work.)

Of course it's almost time for me to re-read The Bell Jar too.

Okay I chose The Bell Jar. It's the right time of the year for it...

KTC-I put Johnny Panic on the poll...I thought just the title would intrigue folks...but the Bell Jar is whuppin' @ss and taking names, looks like.

Looks like it, but for anyone who has not read Johnny Panic...now is the time to suggest it. It really kicks. (I mean the short story itself) It seems so real. I could picture myself doing that. In fact it's pretty scary because I bought into it so thoroughly. The character makes you forget that your not reading your own words. I want to get my hands on the character's bible of dreams too. I bet that kicks *ss. Maybe I could hide under my desk one late night and read it. Sylvia! Are you out there baby?!

I've never read The Bell Jar. So this will be a first for me in reading the book and anything by Sylvia. I need to get out more. :)

I voted for Johnny Panic. I don't anything about the author, so I went with a intriguing title.

I'm easy

I've heard about the Bell Jar, I'd like to read it and it's been on my list for years. Didn't vote, though, because I don't know if I can make the commitment yet, so I didn't think it'd be fair. Curious to see what everyone else comes up with, though!

Is this poll ending this evening? I'll have to run out and get The Bell Jar.

Actually, maybe Borders isn't so evil. The Bell Jar was on a display table near the front door. There's hope yet!

I seem to remember it is possible to subtract points, isn't it? ;)

Don't think it's likely to happen, though!

I'm hoping to get out today and get The Bell Jar, and I'm hoping I'm able to read it in the allotted time for this discussion.

By the way, what is the allotted time? Did we set a date to have the book read and begin discussion?

I've got to get a move on; wouldn't look very good if the generator of this thread idea doesn't make the deadline. :)

Um, I think we should allow two weeks for reading time. This way, people with busy RL schedules will still be able to participate. Just a thought. Should we do another poll, or just leave the time line up to the Queen Horror Bee?

I've already begun the re-reading. Man, I love this book! Are we going to have ongoing discussions while we read?

KTC, I think that would be way fun! Let's do!

I just wandered in here, but is this specifically for horror writers (since it's in the horror forum), or for anyone? :)

This forum is for anyone who has ever curled up with a good scary book, during a midnight thunderstrom...and was damn happy to be there :)

Sounds good! (Actually I made a typo and meant this thread, not really the forum, oops!) I was just curious since y'all are discussing Sylvia, one of my favorites. :) But what you said does sound like my cup of tea. :)

Julia, we've just decided to read The Bell Jar together, and we'd LOVE for you to join us!

Spooky, I sort of figured it takes as long as it takes. And as much as I love the book, I also figured it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. I'd LOVE to hear that point of view, also.

Thanks Mac! I would LOVE to join you as well! :) Now I just need to see about picking up a copy of the book. I'll try this weekend, and catch up with you all! :) It will be fun to have a discussion about it, as well.

Julia, don't sweat it. I haven't managed to grab a copy yet either. Maybe I should venture to the local library *tomorrow. I always fudge it). It's about time for my semi-annual reading of Count of Monte Cristo as well.

*Is that spelled correctly? I always seem to fudge it. Wonder what that's about.

The local used bookstore called and told me that a copy would be there Monday. As soon as I pick it up, I'll begin reading. Well after I finish my two columns and Idol entry. :) Oh man, I better get to work. Later guys.

I guess I'll have to make a trip to the library to see if they have a copy. The bookstore that was supposed to get it in, never did. :(

About halfway through The Belljar now. Should be ready to go when the "group" is ready.

Me too Liam. This book is so autobiographical. I just love it. It was about time for a reread anyway. Did anybody who did not read Johnny Panic get piqued by the title and go out and read it after seeing it here? Just curious...because it's, in my opinion, one of the best short stories written.

Hi everyone,
After my local bargain bookstore telling me The Bell Jar would be there last Monday, it never arrived and the store who was sending it said they can't find it. So, finally today I picked it up at the library. I'll start reading tonight. Don't worry about waiting for me, I'll catch up in between everything else. I hope. :)

Does everyone have a copy and have you begun reading yet?

I have to admit, since I picked the book up at the library on the 25th, I've only read about 40 pages. I'll get it finished, I promise.
