View Full Version : YOU are the MC

Has this been done? Haven't checked, just thought of it.... if it's an ol' thang lettit sink...

so.... YOU are the MC in your story. I would like to know you better...

1. what is your name?

2. are you male, or female?

3. how old are you?

4. why are you in this story?

5. where do you come from?

6. where do you want to get to?

7. what propels you and why?

8. how does your story end....

...I'll give it a shot:

1. & 2. -- In my fiction, I am usually a male (don't ask, got no budget for psychoanalysis). I have a common name like John, Dave, Sam, Pete -- or no name at all -- I'm generic.

3. -- I am usually in my 40s -- not too young, not too old, just old enough to still take chances and be conscious of how much is at stake....

4. -- I am on the verge of change / discovery or self-discovery. The author 'fished' me out and put me on the stage for her own wicked delight and titillation....

5. My past is kinda fuzzy... I get glimpses sometimes, I think my past may be the key to why I am here, but I don't quite grasp it....

6. I never plan my life, just find myself pulled into some unlikely but strangely fitting situation or future...

7. All I know is I have to keep moving forward, get on with it...?

6. The old story ends and a new one begins. MY story goes on forever.

Wow, this sounds like it would take a lot of abstract thought, which I usually blow off thinking I'll do it later.

Hey, just like most of my MCs.

I'll cover both my WIPs. Just for confusion.

1. what is your name?

a. I'm Thomas Martin.
b. I'm Alain Dupard - and he's Marc Foubret.

2. are you male, or female?

a. Um... male, of course.
b. I'm male, I can't vouch for Foubret there.

3. how old are you?

a. Thirteen and a half.
b. Thirty-six. Gadzo? They want to know how old you are... oh, never mind. (He's with some girl again)

4. why are you in this story?

a. Because it seemed like a good idea at the time?
b. I wasn't given a choice.

5. where do you come from?

a. Putney
b. Brest. My partner over there comes from Paris.

6. where do you want to get to?
literally?

a. I want to get out of this forest.
b. Uh... home. My daughter's waiting up again.

figuratively

a. I want to protect my brother and sister and get through high-school.
b. That's a personal question. I don't do personal questions.

7. what propels you and why?

a. I'm the oldest. If I don't take care of things, nothing gets done.
b. Me? Duty - a need to earn money - fascination with the job - catching the 'bad guys'... take your pick.

8. how does your story end....

a. She doesn't tell me those sort of things.
b. I agree with the gamin. We're not exactly briefed.

Hmm... sorry. My characters aren't always so good at being serious. :)

I'll play. WIP 1 I warn you, this MC is a tad self obsessed.

1. what is your name? Randur was my original name, but everyone calls me something different. Except bastard, that's pretty standard.

2. are you male, or female? male.

3. how old are you? four thousand and something. I forget.

4. why are you in this story? No story is complete without me in it, because of my scintillating personality. And I get cross with people who leave me out of a story. Very cross indeed. You do know who I am, right?

5. where do you come from? You know that place that got blasted to smithereens? Sorry about that. More wine?

6. where do you want to get to? Anywhere where I can get a decent glass of wine.

7. what propels you and why? I'm the gods whipping boy. I do it, or else.

8. how does your story end....It doesn't. I'm here forever. Sadly. I need more wine.

1. what is your name?
Gage. Or Charles. Neither is my given name. Don't ask.

2. are you male, or female?
Male.

3. how old are you?
40

4. why are you in this story?
It was an accident. She dragged me into her story and it became mine because I do not trust her to do what needs to be done and things go better when I am in charge. And because the other option was to kill her and walk away, which would have made for a very short book. It is still an option.

5. where do you come from?
Serbia, but not for a very long time. Does not matter. Blood will out.

6. where do you want to get to?
The end - of the job, the entanglement, the memories. The only thing certain is that the job will be done, one way or another.

7. what propels you and why?
Adrenaline spikes, because I am addicted. The completion of the job, because I have control issues. The urge to do one right thing in my life.

8. how does your story end....
It will end badly for someone. With luck and planning, it will be someone else.

1. what is your name? Ray Fukamensto

2. are you male, or female? Male. Can never get into the head of a female.

3. how old are you? Starting at ~17. Lost track as the story progressed.

4. why are you in this story? The first line I wrote was "Hi, folks. My name is Ray Fukamensto," which I deleted afterward.

5. where do you come from? A city/town where there is an entertainment park.

6. where do you want to get to? No where. I was dragged along by fate.

7. what propels you and why? To get outta that misery.

8. how does your story end.... Disturbing. I (the MC, not really myself) made one right decision in my life. That decision is going to disturb me for the rest of my life.

Sounds like fun. Here goes:

1. what is your name? Sean Wyndham

2. are you male, or female? Male

3. how old are you? 15

4. why are you in this story? Because I'm the one whose weird attraction to the outre and magical causes me to totally mess up my summer, my family, my friends and possibly the world. Okay, so not the world, but at least the Providence-Cranston-Warwick metropolitan area.

5. where do you come from? Providence, RI, center of the universe.

6. where do you want to get to? Miskatonic University, in Arkham, MA, preferably the Arcane Studies Program.

7. what propels you and why? Well, there's that weird attraction to magic, which as it turns out stems from an inborn magical proclivity which totally seems to come out of nowhere, plus there's this project I need to do for school over the summer, and then there's this pretty strong desire to survive the summer and not get everyone around me killed. Plus I really like my uncle's Polish lasagna -- don't ask...

8. how does your story end....It's got to end? Wait a minute, I'm only fifteen! And Nyarlathotep keeps telling me you can live forever!

I am Alain, a man of near-twenty from the deep desert near the tower of ruined Ja'akarr. It is well past the time I should have distinguished myself among my people, the Ja'ak-Tsaryn, and I have failed to prove myself a great hunter or warrior; I must now prove myself a great traveller and explorer, or I will never earn a wife of distinction.

Wait, is #8 "how does the story really end" or "how does the MC think the story will end"? Because these are very different things.

WIP 2- I had to think about this and it's given me a couple of insights into this guy:)

1. what is your name? Rojan

2. are you male, or female? Male, oh for sure, did you see the baps on that?

3. how old are you? 28

4. why are you in this story? I had the worst day ever. Then it hit the fan.

5. where do you come from? Upside

6. where do you want to get to? Home, as long as I find my neice first

7. what propels you and why? Normaly money and a cushy life. Now, well my brother asked me to, then my concience takes over

8. how does your story end....happily I hope. I don't know yet. ( author's note : it's not likely he's going to be happy....)

how does THE story end?

Oh, well, in that case... I don't know. It sort of depends on how Alain ultimately deals with this girl, and how she deals with him, and what her grandfather thinks, and whether Ediel gets a say in the matter. Stuff like that. It's complicated.

1. what is your name? Ben Whelan

2. are you male, or female? male

3. how old are you? 36

4. why are you in this story? I don't know, but I wish I wasn't. This story has sharp teeth and they have been at my throat since page one.

5. where do you come from? the bowels of the American Midwest

6. where do you want to get to? as far away from my childhood as a bottle of Scotch can take me

7. what propels you and why? Fear. It's the only motivation I've ever known.

8. how does your story end? In darkness. And at a new story's beginning.

Here's WIP #2

1. what is your name? Molly

2. are you male, or female? female

3. how old are you? 25

4. why are you in this story? Because otherwise no one would ever know how much I have gotten away with.

5. where do you come from? the heartland

6. where do you want to get to? everywhere at least once

7. what propels you and why? Addiction and greed. I just can't stop, and even if I could, I'm not sure I would want to.

8. how does your story end? without redemption

Since it's what I'm working on right now...

1. what is your name? I am Hostus.

2. are you male, or female? I was once male, though to say that now is meaningless.

3. how old are you? Hundreds, thousands of years. What does it matter?

4. why are you in this story? You may as well ask the sun why it rises each morning.

5. where do you come from? I am First Champion. That is all that need be said.

6. where do you want to get to? I will follow the blood-trail until I find Enias, he who cursed me.

7. what propels you and why? You do not wish to know. Live well. Leave my fate to me.

8. how does your story end.... When I encounter Enias, I alone will decide.

I'll do the manuscript that's currently out on submission. :)

1. what is your name? Evangeline Stone, but my friends just call me Evy. Or Stony, if you're a big-ass Bridge Troll.

2. are you male, or female? All female, baby.

3. how old are you? I'm twenty-three, but the body I'm in now is, like, twenty-eight. I'm almost thirty, dammit!

4. why are you in this story? Literally? In a city teaming with vamps, trolls, goblins, gargoyles, and other crazy beasties, most of them trying to kill me. Figuratively, I'm at a crossroads in my life...

5. where do you come from? From whatever place I've just left.

6. where do you want to get to? Someplace where I can fall asleep without wondering what's going to try and kill me tomorrow.

7. what propels you and why? At first, I wanted to know who killed me and why I was resurrected. Along the way, I did a stupid thing and fell in love. Now I want more time.

8. how does your story end.... Big, bloody fight. Probably some tears. Maybe somewhere in the mess, I'll dig out a happy ending.

OK, I shall try for the third WIP on my signature list there (a list I seriously need to update at some point)

1. what is your name? Edmund Ellyon, though very few people call me that.

2. are you male, or female? male

3. how old are you? 35

4. why are you in this story? I botched things up, down to me to fix it, I suppose

5. where do you come from? Dextonshire, on the Island of Norel in Rigion

6. where do you want to get to? Out of this bloody place for a start!

7. what propels you and why? Since everyone around here seems set on trying to kill me, I'd say self-preservation for the most part. Other than that, a desire to see certain people in an awful lot of pain for what they've done.

8. how does your story end.... Ah well, he who seeks revenge should dig two graves... (Unless my author takes pity and decides to give the thing a happy ending after all, but I doubt it. The woman's a sadist.)

1. what is your name?
A longish traditional name that can be shortened: Timothy (Tim), William (Will), Samuel (Sam), etc.

2. are you male, or female?
Male

3. how old are you?
Either too young or too old for whatever I'm doing.

4. why are you in this story?
I'm looking for acceptance and possibly love. But I'm not sure I deserve it.

5. where do you come from?
I have a dark past I don't like to talk about.

6. where do you want to get to?
I just want to survive the next ___ days/months.

7. what propels you and why?
I'm probably attempting to save someone else, physically and spiritually.

8. how does your story end....
With a glimpse of happiness. Maybe. But it's cost me a great deal to get here.

In his own words...

Hi, I'm a guy named Radovin. I'd seen sixteen summers at the time my life took a big turn for the better. I think you people count things differently, so maybe you would come up with a different number. Whatever. (shrugs)

Anyhow, I had a few problems--I was supposed to be cursed with ill luck, for one, and I was stuck as apprentice to a real scumbag of a shaman. I had sworn this oath on my life, so I thought I was dead meat if I disobeyed or left him. Nice, huh? But I knew that he was a murderer, so I took off anyway.

My mother and I were from the Raven band. So many died in a great sickness that the band had to break up. I wanted to dedicate myself to the Way of the Good Spirits, and Mama was going to talk to this other shaman, but she died and I got stuck where I was with the creep. Then a few years later the other fellow was killed, and I needed to tell his band about it.

So I had to go to the Summermeet because I didn't know from doo-dah where they were but I figured I could hide out and wait for them to show up. I contacted them--not quite like I might have planned. Things were a bit hairy for a while but everything turned out great. I like happy endings, and I didn't think I would live to see one!

I'm better at telling old stories to little kids than I am at telling my own like this. :D

1. what is your name? My real name is a secret (besides, it's dreadfully long--remember ROSEBUD? What was my mother thinking? And she picked awful names). I go by Anton Keymas. The press calls me "Magic Stud," a rather unfortunate nickname the tabloids coined.

2. are you male, or female? That's a silly question. Everyone knows who I am. Just pick up a tab. I'm probably on the cover. I even have fan clubs.

3. how old are you? Depends on what source. If you read what's reported in the tabs, I'm 30, but if you read that unauthorized biography, the authors swears I'm 28 (it makes the rumored affair sound more elicit). None of them are right, and I'm not telling.

4. why are you in this story? Tall, blonde, and omnipotent (TBO) stuck me with this and didn't give me any choice.

5. where do you come from? I was born on a ship. The authorized biography said that was a lie. Sloppy research. It was on the front page of the newspaper. Clearly I was born to be in the press.

6. where do you want to get to? I thought I knew two years ago. But TBO changed everything. Something bad is coming, and we're not ready.

7. what propels you and why? My entire family was assassinated when I was five. I watched my parents murdered at a press conference. Decades later, no one's ever been brought to justice, but the press keeps replaying the footage of that day and talking about conspiracy theories. I try to avoid TV that day; I'm not sure what's worse--seeing them die all over again or watching the reaction of a five year old boy witnessing it.

8. how does your story end.... Ten against one. But then, no one knows exactly what I can do. Even the tabs haven't found that out ...

** If you don't get the ROSEBUD reference, it's from Dick Van Dyke. Poor son Ricky discovers his birth certificate says his middle name is ROSEBUD. The story unfolds that's an acronym to appease all the men in the family: (Richie) Robert Oscar Sam Edward Benjamin Ulysess David (Petrie).

Fun idea! Mine is a Regency romance, so I will do both the heroine and the hero.

1. what is your name? Lady Audrey Lambeth

2. are you male, or female? Female, to my own disappointment.

3. how old are you? Twenty-eight, and thankfully on the shelf. Now I can focus on much more important things, and ignore ridiculous questions and remarks about my prospects.

4. why are you in this story? It's a story about my family, and as they are my responsibility, it only makes sense.

5. where do you come from? Although I enjoy the occasional jaunt to the family plot, I am a London kind of girl. Besides, I don't like to stay too far for too long from business.

6. where do you want to get to? Wishfully, back to the family that wasn't perfect, but was perfect for me and understood me perfectly. With my father and my brother dead... I'm lost.

7. what propels you and why? He stole my family, my world, my brother's life, but I will be damned if I'll let him get away with it. He thought he had removed all the protectors, but he didn't know about me.

8. how does your story end... It ends with me learning that I'm not always right, that focusing my grief and anger on revenge was misguided and nearly ruinous, that I craved understanding and love and hid it behind haughty withdrawal. That love born from respect can be life saving.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. what is your name? Major Dominic Lambeth, retired...though now I suppose the proper title is Earl of Wilmington.

2. are you male, or female? Male.

3. how old are you? 35, but I feel older than my years.

4. why are you in this story? I damn well wish I wasn't. I didn't ask to inherit; not the Earldom, not this greedy family and their financial problems, and certainly not some young ice princess who blames me for everything wrong in her cozy little life.

5. where do you come from? I've been a soldier for a long time.

6. where do you want to get to? Now that Bonaparte has escaped, back to battle. As that's impossible, I just don't know anymore. For the first time in my life... I feel adrift.

7. what propels you and why? I won't shirk my duty, even if that duty is now to a family I don't much like.

8. how does your story end... I learn that London and the Wilmington family can be just as dangerous as any war. I learn that integrity, courage, and loyalty are not just battle field traits, nor solely the province of men. I grow to respect, and even love, a woman who isn't afraid of battle, even when she mistakenly thinks I am the enemy.

1. what is your name?
Revin: Revin Peters.
Tessa: And I'm Contessa, Revin's twin sister.

2. are you male, or female?
Revin: Both... but I'm the male, so incase Tessa was wondering, I can kick her girlie butt to the moon.
Tessa: [nudge] Hey! But why would you want to kick my girlie butt? [puppy eyes]
Revin: [whisper] I just want these interviewer fools to hurry up, so we can finish.
Tessa: [whisper] Oh, right.

3. how old are you?
Revin: The author doesn't let me tell anyone. I'm basically the age of the reader's younger alter-ego (between teen and young adult)
Tessa: Just a few minutes younger than Revin.

4. why are you in this story?
Revin: I have no idea. I just woke up one day, and my entire family was kidnapped. Now I have to find them, and team up with Tessa (who escaped) to find out what happened, and resurrect a long-lost perfectionist way of life (complete with accompanying religion) while we're at it. By the time this is all over, I'm certainly not going to be the same person I was when this all started.
Tessa: I'm Revin's moral support, and only link to that lost way of life. We had a terrible past together, but now we're all we have left, and things are gradually getting much better. See, watch: I can give Revin a kiss on the cheek, and he won't run away. [kiss - leans on shoulder] See, he loves me now! :D
Revin: [smiling] Girls still have diseases.
Tessa: Hey!

5. where do you come from?
Revin: I don't even know how old I am, or what I'm doing in the story; what makes you think I know where I come from? Last I checked, I came from my house.
Tessa: Revin is emotionally destroyed. [puts arm around him] What he means to say is that we've always lived here, in a hidden city up in the mountains, overlooking a terrible kingdom that our ancestors fled from. Nobody knows that there's a city here, and all passages up the mountain have been blocked, so there's no chance of ever being found.

6. where do you want to get to?
Revin: Home... Tessa and I have been sleeping in a secret spot outside, under the stars, for the last two weeks. I just want to see my bed again, but the house is closed off to all visitors. You would think we could re-enter our own house, but everyone thinks we're dead... and we don't know who the kidnapper is yet, so we have to keep it that way.
Tessa: Home also. Our life out here, in hiding, is the most excruciating thing we've ever had to endure.

7. what propels you and why?
Revin: We think our family might still be alive... and Tessa is helping me rediscover my purpose for being alive, by showing me that lost way of life.
Tessa: We want our family freed, but even more than that, we want to bring back the religion; especially me and my best friend, who lives next door. I want my whole family to have it, and if we help it spread, we can gradually destroy our failed culture, and replace it with a far better one.

8. how does your story end....
Revin: Everything we just mentioned gets resolved... and I get to kick Tessa's butt in a sparring room. [nudge]
Tessa: Yeah, but your fight trainer is a girl, and she can kick everyone's butt. See, girls win!
Revin: She can't beat Jeffrey or James. Nobody can beat them.
Tessa: Yeah, but you killed James, so he doesn't count... and Jeffrey is too strong, so he doesn't count.
Revin: How doesn't that count?
Tessa: [whisper] He said if he plays down to Phyllis' strength, she can beat him a little bit more than half the time, so she's better.
Revin: [whisper] Yeah, but he still wins if he doesn't, so he's better.
Tessa: No. Skill is what counts.
Revin: No...
Tessa: Yes...
Revin: No, let me show you. [grabs Tessa, and throws her over his shoulders, then spins her around like a propeller] Seeee??!!
Tessa: [laughing hysterically] Ahhhhhhhh, okay okay, boys win, boys win!

Sorry. I love my characters. :D

Wasn't sure if you wanted the slightly easier version (pick a character) or the hard version (all of them combined) so I went with the hard one :tongue

In my fiction:

1. I usually have one of those long polysyllabic names because I'm named for a nymph I'm related to, like Kallianassa, or else I'm just a rich brat with pretentious parents, like Ophelia.

2. Female

3. Anywhere from 17 to 65 to millions of years old.

4. I'm probably looking for either forgiveness or love. Hopefully I find them...

5. Most of the time, I'm from somewhere near the Mediterranean--Greece, an island on the Aegean, or sometimes the Caucasus. Sometimes, I'm from the South Shore of Boston, Massachusetts.

6. I want to get to permanence. Stability. Hopefully, happinesss, but peace is fine, short of that.

7. Sometimes, the unstoppable inertia of monotony is all that keeps me going. Sometimes, I actually want something, or someone.

8. My story ends bittersweetly. I get what I want...for a while. Or maybe not at all. Maybe that wasn't what was best. Or maybe fate just wasn't on my side. (Sometimes, a rich Massachusetts girl gets what she deserves, though, and it's not comeuppance).

Okay, From my current WIP

1. what is your name?

Uh, Fair. Winner if you're a member of Solomon and like me. Which, even if you are a knight, you probably don't.

2. are you male, or female?

Male, for sure.

3. how old are you?

Just turned 17.

4. why are you in this story?

What story? My life isn't that interesting. I mean, I'm just a Knight of Solomon and travel around the galaxy exacting judgement upon the heads of sinners. You know, people who knit and stuff.

5. where do you come from?

The Solomon Foundation. Where else? Didn't you catch the whole Knight of Solomon thing?

6. where do you want to get to?

Away from The Solomon Foundation, but that's not happening, is it?

7. what propels you and why?

Um, my greedy desire to not die horribly.

8. how does your story end....

How the hell am I supposed to know? But I'd better not die horribly doing something noble and totally against my nature.

Great thread!

1. what is your name?

Brynn Parish

2. are you male, or female?

Kind of obvious, don't you think? (smirk)

3. how old are you?

Sweet 16-ok maybe not that sweet.

4. why are you in this story?

Simon, it's all his fault. I wouldn't be here-wouldn't be in this f'd up situation if it weren't for him and his lame ass game.

5. where do you come from?

Parish House, of course.

6. where do you want to get to?

Away. Anywhere but here. I tried to leave once, but it didn't work out so well. He stole my voice-can you believe that shit?

7. what propels you and why?

Sleep. God what I wouldn't do for one night's sleep. Actually I'd do ANYTHING-kill if I have to, I just need him out of my head. Sunrises are so overrated.

8. how does your story end....

I don't think I'm going to make it, I think I'll flake out. Why did she have to be nice? So needy...so totally clueless...

Since the characters I write about are always so different from each other, I'll do my fantasy novel's heroine as a contrast with my earlier post.

1. what is your name? Sarey.

2. are you male, or female? I can't blame you for not being able to tell, seeing as I'm stuck in this spear. It's not a phallic symbol, I swear. I'm female!

3. how old are you? I've seen three-and-sixteen winters.

4. why are you in this story? I'm not even sure whether I'm still alive in any meaningful sense, and you want me to tell you a story?

5. where do you come from? A tribe living in caves by the ruins of a city.

6. where do you want to get to? For now, I'm content to allow my love to use me as a weapon. Later, who knows? He has his own plans, but I like it here in Helia.

7. what propels you and why? I never knew there was such a rich set of systems underlying the natural world. It's fascinating. I just want to be left alone to work things out on my own.

8. how does your story end.... When spring comes and the river thaws, he will set out toward the sea. Will I go with him? I don't know yet.

5. where do you come from? I was born and raised in NJ...

6. where do you want to get to? I want to get away from my verbally abusive husband.

1. what is your name? Alexander, but you can call me Alex.

2. are you male, or female? Male

3. how old are you? 26

4. why are you in this story? In a fit of jealous rage (over a woman, it's always over a woman), I worked some black magic on this warlock dude, but I didn't get it right and I killed him. Problem is, he didn't stay dead, and now he's after my sorry arse.

6. where do you want to get to? Any place this guy and his minions aren't.

7. what propels you and why? I want to kill this damn warlock before he finishes killing me...and the woman I'm in love with, even though I'd rather have my tongue cut out than admit it to her. Oh and did I mention that Mr. Warlock had me turned into a vampire?

From my werewuff story:

1. what is your name?
Kate

2. are you male, or female?
Female. What, you think my parents would name a guy "Kate"?

3. how old are you?
Twenty-something. Old enough to drink. Do you have any drinks around here? I could really use one...

4. why are you in this story?
Because I couldn't keep my pants zipped. No, I don't want to talk about it.

5. where do you come from?
I'm from podunkville Missouri, currently attending college in the southern part of the state.

6. where do you want to get to?
Get to? I don't care, as long as it's away from all of these frickin' werewolves. They're like weeds, they pop up everywhere!

7. what propels you and why?
My need to not-die propels me. Does there have to be a reason for that?

8. how does your story end....
My story doesn't end until I'm dead, but as of right now, I killed a guy. What? Don't look at me like that. He was trying to kill me. It's not my fault. .... Okay it is my fault, but just don't tell my parents, okay?

1. what is your name? - David

2. are you male, or female? - Male

3. how old are you? - 17 when the story starts, and 49 when it ends

4. why are you in this story? - because the story follows me as I grow up

5. where do you come from? - boring, dull, Dallas Tx

6. where do you want to get to? - To People's Park in San Francisco, or Woodstock, to hang out with all the other hippies and smoke some good weed, listen to some great music, and hopefully, find a cool chick to hang out with.
Oh! I forgot....I'm also running from the FBI. We all are. They think we're a bunch of radicals that bombed a store and a post office.

7. what propels you and why? - I grew up in dull Dallas Tx, and what propels me is that I want to get out, see the world, meet some cool people, and have a good time, you know, just to be a hippie, that's cool. Also, we have a big yellow school bus that is covered with flowers, peace signs and cool hippie stuff. So, our bus 'propels' us too. Cool huh?

8. how does your story end.... - hopefully when I find Maggie. My girlfriend. We got separated right after Woodstock, and I've been looking for her for 25 years. If I don't find her, then it'll end with me alone

a dark fantasy story.

1. My name's Guido Contriari. If you want to be proper, its Don Guido. I only insist on it from people I don't like.

2. Male. Second of two surviving sons of Cosimo Contriari.

3. I'm 34. People say I look a little older.

4. I'm in this story because six rich young troublemakers got murdered in a bathhouse. Why is it my problem? Because I'm a city prefect, that's why, and these fools just had to go slumming in my district and get themselves offed. Worse still, those kids were from well connected families, and my boss has been looking for an excuse to get rid of me.

5. I come from the glorious city of Essel, and I have served it all my life. At least, I've been shuffled around the various police forces until the Prime Minister decided to kick me up to a prefect's post to piss off the Minister of the Peace. I suppose that counts as a long aNd distinguished service. I used to say it beat the army or the clergy, which are the more usual choices for the penniless aristocrat, but I'm not so sure now.

6. Where do I want to get to? You ask as if I have some kind of choice in the matter. I'm here because of someone's political manuever. Where I will be later depends on someone else. I've managed to stay in this job for ten years, and I'm pretty sure my boss has tried to have me killed twice. So you might say I'm living day by day at the moment.

7. Well, its partly family tradition, but mostly stubbornness. My family motto is 'Always Against Evil.' Thats us, the opposition. The people who stand around telling people not only that the emperor has no clothes, but he embezzled public funds to pay for them. Not that I really believe it. Sentiments seem so much more convincing when they are printed on a coat of arms. Mostly for me, its the idea that as long as I'm prefect, there's one corner of the city that isn't in the hands of the Minister's thugs. If he thinks I'm just going to slink away he's got another think coming.

8. I doubt it will be 'and he lives happily ever after.'

Oh I love this! Makes me wanna read everyone's books!

I'll give it a shot. From my WIP in revision:

1. what is your name?
Isabela Fuentes

2. are you male, or female?
Female

3. how old are you?
I'm young - I'm 18. Just graduated from high school.

4. why are you in this story?
I'm trying to start a new life. I'm trying to LIVE my life.

5. where do you come from?
I was born in Puerto Rico, but after my father passed away, my mother moved me to Long Island City in New York. I hated it there. That's one reason I left.

6. where do you want to get to?
I want to get to a place in life where I'm at peace with who I am and the life I'm living. I want to be happy.

7. what propels you and why?
I guess you could say I'm running away.

8. how does your story end....
I hope it doesn't end. I hope it keeps going...but only if I can find happiness.

Okay, I think I get it now.

1. what is your name?
Matthew

2. are you male, or female?
male.

3. how old are you?
Aren't we generalizing here? There is no simple answer because, really, it depends on lots of things: which reincarnation we're talking about and at which point in the reincarnation we're focusing on. Then if you want to be more specific, we'd have to calculate my age from the point of my soul's first birth, which then gets really complicated.

4. why are you in this story?
I'm pretty much here to save the world.

5. where do you come from?
The same place all souls come from. At least the good ones.

6. where do you want to get to?
Back to the bottom of the deep stream where I left one of my bodies.

7. what propels you and why?
Ultimately, the quest for my one true love.

8. how does your story end....
Happily ever after of course.

1. what is your name?
I am Nintu, birth-goddess.

2. are you male, or female?
Female

3. how old are you?
There is no time when I am not. I am older than the sands of the desert and younger than the first blossom of the spring.

4. why are you in this story?
Because I have learned to regret the judgment I once made on mankind and I am looking for the opportunity to set the world right.

5. where do you come from?
The answer to that question has been forgotten for longer than you can tell.

6. where do you want to get to?
I am everywhere. I see everything and I know everything, yet because of my own judgement I have been rendered impotent. I want to find the way back.

7. what propels you and why?
Guilt and compassion

8. how does your story end....
As it began, with the birth of a child.

This was fun!

My female MC has just informed me that if I don't give her a shot at this, she's going to kick me in the head. Repeatedly.

1. what is your name?
Deira. Or Gina, if you're a cop.

2. are you male, or female?
Female - an aggravating source of trouble. This would be easier if I was a guy.

3. how old are you?
24, but I feel older

4. why are you in this story?
It's MY story. My dead sister. My plan for revenge. And yeah, it wasn't working out how I expected, but since he stepped in, I don't have any say in how the job will be done -- or anything else that affects my life. Anal retentive bastard...

5. where do you come from?
The fine line where the city fades into the surrounding countryside. A once loving family shattered and scattered.

6. where do you want to get to?
Don't care. All I want is those guys dead. I sorta doubt I'll have much future after that. But if I do, I'd think I'd like to see Tuscany.

7. what propels you and why?
A desire for revenge that edges ever closer to psychosis. I'm okay with that.

8. how does your story end....
I don't know. I want it to end with the rat bastards dying, preferably in agony. If I survive that, it's a new world. Just don't know that there's a place for me in it.

Since I've been listening to a soundtrack I put together for my MC I'm definitely in the mindframe for this. :)

1. what is your name? Hildy Johnson. Yes, like in that movie.

2. are you male, or female? Female.

3. how old are you? 27, but keep in mind that 30 is the new 40.

4. why are you in this story? Because everyone seems to be trying to keep things from me. Honestly I have no idea why. I mean, I'm the one people should be bringing their problems to! It's ridiculous.

5. where do you come from? Deep in the OC.

6. where do you want to get to? Editorial staff.

7. what propels you and why? The fact that I am always right. About everything. Swear to God.

8. how does your story end.... Finding Cary Grant.

1. James Leonite Junior...but you can call me Jimmy or dweeb, depending on whether or not you go to my school or not.

2. <glances down> Male...last time I checked.

3. Eighteen cycles...that's about 18 Earth Years, give or take a few months.

4. Oh, I'm a metaphor for growing up and shouldering the responsibilities of adult life. Seriously, though, I have no idea half the time. I'm either running or shouting or shooting...but in the end, the only thing that mattered was talking. Mostly cause Anna gave me a gun that had rubber bullets and forgot to tell me till the adventure was over...

5. Piping Station A. It's a largish city in the sewage system of a colossal planet eating starship.

6. Home

7. The bullets that keep flying at me and the mystery in my pocket...and the hope that I can find the courage to tell Pix that I love her...you'd think it would be easy after getting shot at, but it's still hard.

8. I manage to not only say "I love you" without getting my tongue tied, save the galaxy and then get home just in time to miss my High School finals and get stuck in summer school for three months. Great. Thanks school system, I really had faith in you at one time you stupid...grumble grumble...

Oh, this is fun!

1)What's your name?
My name's Det. Kyle Poole

2)Are male or female?
You're kidding, right?

3)How old are you?
Just shy of 30 and plan on staying that way.

4)Why are you in this story?
I did something stupid: I saved some psycho-nutcase's life. And how does he repay me? He ices my suspects, he introduces my girlfriends to each other, and then to add insult to injury, he turns me into a ball-licking, moon-howling, werewolf!

5)Where do you come from?
I've been around but had a prime gig as a homicide detective with the Emerald Bay PD.

6) Where do you want to get to?
I want to get my hands around the necks of the lunatics that infected the lunatic who infected me. I know, it sounds a little wonky but that's what I'm gunning for.

7)What propels you and why?
It used to be bagging the creeps and weirdos running loose in the city, that and grabbing a fine piece of tail. Now I just want to go a few minutes without envisioning every stranger that passes by as a four-course meal.

8)How does your story end?
Me, running off into the sunset minus the horse and the girl. Instead, i get a whole squad of mercs charging after me, ready to pump my ass full of silver. Can you feel the love?

2. are you male, or female? male

3. how old are you? Closer to 40 than I ever thought I'd get.

4. why are you in this story? Because no good deed goes unpunished. I keep a guy from getting mugged and he rewards me by kidnapping me and spiriting me to a secret government facility. They want to turn me back into a weapon.

5. where do you come from? This time an alley. I'm a homeless vet hiding from the world and my past. I'm the by-product of Illinois farmland and Uncle Sam's school for wayward boys.

6. where do you want to get to? Away from these people and the rest of the world. I'm realizing I can't escape my nightmares.

7. what propels you and why? Survival. It's only a matter of time before they figure out who I used to be. Then they'll either use that to get me to do their bidding or they'll put me back on the street and the other folks I used to work for will know where to find me. Either way I'm probably dead.

8. how does your story end....I'll let you know.

2. are you male, or female? Female, but I think it's pretty obvious from my name

4. why are you in this story? Because I'm way too rebellious for my own good and I decided that I couldn't stand another summer of life guarding. And everyone dabbles in organized crime to spice up a boring summer, right?

5. where do you come from? I might come from prison soon...

6. where do you want to get to? Safety, somewhere where the cops can't find me

7. what propels you and why? Boredom originally, but now I'm in survival mode - fight or flight - and I refuse to go to jail

8. how does your story end.... COnsidering how close the police are right now, it might end badly. But I don't know. And neither does Madison, unfortunately...

This is cool! I've never done this before and it's not nearly as good as everyone else's but I figured I'd give it a try. :)

1. what is your name?
Bailey Carrington

2. are you male, or female?
Female

3. how old are you?
Thirty-six

4. why are you in this story?
I’m in this story because I fell in love with a man. He’s one of those men who makes women sit up at restaurants and take notice. There’s an aura about him that just draws them to him like bees to honey. So why did he choose me? I’m still trying to figure that out. The problem now is that some psychopath is out to destroy us, and for the moment I’ve had to leave him behind in an effort to save both of our lives.

5. where do you come from?
I was born in New Jersey and raised in New England which is why my current residence in the South is so perplexing to me. I’m all about getting it done fast, and getting it done right and here things are a bit more laid back. Even the police department is a little slow, that’s why I’m taking matters into my own hands. Sometimes you just have to.

6. where do you want to get to?
I want to get home, sleep in my own bed and get out of this car. I’ve been living out of it for a bit too long now. What I wouldn’t give for a hot meal and an even hotter bath.

7. what propels you and why?
Love propels me, that and the desire to beat the bastard who tried to kill my lover.

8. how does your story end....
I’m not entirely sure yet. I’ll let you know when I find out.

b. Ricky.

2. are you male, or female?

b. Male.

3. how old are you?
a. What's with all the questions?? I'm 16, alright?
b. 15.

4. why are you in this story?

b. If you had a strange girl appear in your bedroom and kept speaking in riddles, wouldn't you try to figure out what's going on?

5. where do you come from?
a. None of your business. I'm not from here if that is what you are asking.
b. That neighborhood about a mile from the local library and the one with all the neighbors' trees covered in toilet paper. Seriously, it wasn't me.

6. where do you want to get to?
a. Back to my room. All this work is tiring. I just want to go back home, relax, and let my parents handle all the hard work like they used to.
b. A normal place? If there is such a place, that is.

7. what propels you and why?
a. Dorkwad's father thinks I can't do anything. I'll show him.
b. The stories that the girl tells me feel like more than stories. I want to figure out what is going on - and keep the girl from killing herself. If I can just get her to remember not to run out in front of cars...

8. how does your story end....
a. If I wrote the story... oh wait, you mean for real? Cruddy as usual. I suppose it would be considered a happy ending.
b. After a bunch of stuff happens everything is still weird. But as long as it is better from the start it would be okay.

I'm doing the same character twice...but better and with these new point thingies!

1. James Leonite Junior.

2. Male, last time I checked.

3. Young Adult, cause we're teenagers Science fiction, cause we're living on a giant, planet eating space ship. Adventure, cause we're running a lot. Romance, cause...well...<blushes>. Comedy...I don't think it's funny. But you might.

4. Because I had the bad luck to pick up the data crystal with the evil plan on it.

5. Piping Station A, aka Stalingrad V, aka New Marseilles, aka Neo-Sputnik, aka home. Every few years, someone wants to change it to something new and more 'classical'...but it always goes back to old PSA.

6. Back home.

7. The bullets flying my way and the secret in my pocket.

8. Well, lets see...there's Anna Heller, the mono-syllabic gunrunner. There's my best freind and the, uh, well <blushes again> The l-love of my life. Uh, Ed Heller. He...or she, I'm not sure, is Anna's adoptive child person. A real gun nut, and a bit whiny. There's Gabe. Gabe is an asshole.

9. <bites his lip> Well...I think I grew up...in more way than one. I learned that you got to risk things to win, that guns arn't cool...and that I really really love Pix.

10. <looks down> I had to...hurt...the only person I'd die for.

11. Happily...sorta. Pix and I are together, even if...injured. The galaxy is saved...but we missed our finals and have to take summer school. Which is why I'm answering this knee deep in paper work.

Genre:

Well, this is a fantasy novel of some sort. I know because two of the six murdered men got blasted by some sort of fire. Thats a dead give away. Magic, fantasy, wizards and all that crap. As if my job weren't hard enough already.

Supporting characters? Well, there are a lot of characters in this story, but not so many of them are exactly supportive. I've got my right hand man and best friend, Constable Lucco, who helps me out more than anyone. I've also got Constables Ghiberti, Rosa and Castiglioni, but I think Castiglioni hates my guts. There's also the junior staff, but I try not to involve them in anything dangerous. Besides them, I've got my brother, Aristide, who isnt much help to me, because he has his own responsibilities, and the rest of my family, who are more or less supportive. My daughter, Arianne, my parents, my sister, and a bunch of nephews and nieces. Occasionally my mother in law gives me some advice too, but I don't see her that often anymore. I also have a girlfriend of sorts...her name is Vicenza and I like her, but, well she's married, so nothing will probably come of it. I guess you could include some of the fine, upstanding citizens of my district, including Dario the enamaler, and Lizzarro the popina owner, but heck, I can't rely on them for much, can I?

Beyond that, I don't have supporting characters. I have suspects. Nothing but suspects. I wish I had a witness, but if wishes were horses...

9. What do I gain? Self respect, courage, a new found respect for my fellow citizen perhaps? Hopefully a pay raise, at least.

Any change brings loss, even things we are better off without are often painful to give up.

I can't answer the last one.

1. what is your name?

My name is Ian, Noel, Jonah, Logan, Josiah, Kyle, Trey, Charlie, or Sawyer. Usually.

2. are you male, or female?

Male. Always male.

3. how old are you?

Sixteen or seventeen.

4. why are you in this story?

On the sidelines, watching it all unfold. Telling it to you.

5. where do you come from?

Washington D.C. Or at least that's where I end up.

6. where do you want to get to?

Home. Wherever that may be.

7. what propels you and why?

Probably my brother or a friend who's just like one. I probably want to get healthy, and I'm probably not. And I probably don't know I want the girl I want.

8. how does your story end....

I get home.

Somehow.

1. what is your name?

Sun Zhihui, although I don't expect you to be able to pronounce it. Sun is my family name, by the way.

2. are you male, or female?

Male, although I wouldn't ask that question around here. Too many officers can't answer truthfully.

3. how old are you?

37, assuming that you refer to the Earth methods of calculating age. I was conceived on Earth just before my parents fled to Midas.

4. why are you in this story?

I fear that, were you to ask anyone else, they would describe me as a 'supporting character'. That is not the case. Currently, I'm working on a murder investigation.

5. where do you come from?

That's a good question. Those from Earth would say Midas; those from Midas would say Earth. I would say Earth, personally. It's all in the mind.

6. where do you want to get to?

I only want to ensure freedom for everyone living on this planet. As a side-effect, the mind and sanity of my closest friend will be saved.

7. what propels you and why?

Linguistics and bees.

8. how does your story end....

I become the master of this colony after I instigate a planet-wide riot. I'm serious.
