I decided to start a blog for my box of old scissors, ranging from civil war era to modern models. Its a pretty obscure topic, I know. The main goal is to help me record and research what I have. But if anyone has any tips, please share.

What an interesting and fun hobby. I never thought to collect something so seemingly common place, but not so common at all. Very cool. I very much like the layout and the closeups of the stampings.

Are you going to write about where you find them? I'd love to hear how you find and what draws you to a pair of scissors.

I have been picking up old scissors from all over the place for ages, and most of these I don't really remember where they came from. A combination of yard sales, junk shops and ebay for the most part :) I don't know much about them for the most part and have yet to find a book or website specifically about scissors so most of the models will be posted with minimal unformation for now :( But I thought starting the blog might just draw in some other scissor enthusiasts...

You know, a half dozen silly jokes just wandered through my head (just because that's who I am), but the blog is kinda cool.

The idea that something so household/office universal could lead into a variety of odd and interesting stories is neat.

And the pictures are cool. thanks for sharing!

Oh hell. I just realised that I miss-spelled 'shears' in the url. I donlt really want to redo it at the new url--but now it's going to bug me.

I thought it was just a play on words to go with queer.

I didn't actually think scissors could be so interesting, but I too collect weird items. I have a whole collection of gas masks.

I quite liked the brutish looking L.P. Hyde 12.

The name Hyde. There's a story in there somewhere.

I have a score more to put up and others one the way. But it is nice to know I am not a complete freak in thinking they are interesting...

p.s. gas masks, that sounds pretty cool.

WOW! What an interesting subject to write a blog about!! :)

I suppose you could always put more scissors-related Google ads on it (& see if you can influence that? people browsing around might be actually more tempted to click an ad about scissors :) at least I would be lol)

It would also be interesting to read about the story about the scissors maybe (after a 'read more' link, maybe) - how they got into the family, how you bought them at a flea market from this tiny old russian woman...? dunno... :) & where they were used before.. (if she could tell you...?) I mean real story, not invented :) If possible...
You could also make it into an eBay affiliate blog with links to interesting related eBay items (?) - either your own or other people's...?

& you could maybe link it to other collectors' blogs...?

Or even add links to 'items scissored with...' (I would be quite curious how they cut lol - maybe you could add a pic with strips of cloth &/or paper of different thinness/cardboard) or add projects you can do with old scissors...?
It depends how much you want to do with this, & into which direction you want to take the blog... :)

/Knowing you write erotica I had to giggle a bit when I first read the title of this post & your blog lol - Is it intentional? :)/
I thought the 'misspelling' was intentional, & found it quite cute too...

Good luck with the blog & it all!

Emily - way cool site! I have dealt in antique scissors and shears in the past and am also interested in them. What a great tool they are and the craftsmanship in the old pieces is incredible. Nice job and nice photography.

I do actually. And I have a pair just like the vintage 40s ones, and a pair of small patterned handled ones too.
