my guess: patience. excrutiatingly oppressive patience stretched beyond the bounds of any human capacity for anguish.

I predict that Jenna will be too stressed out to pick her own theme, and so will pick up on the theme that has been developing organically on the Idea Stealing thread.
That theme, destined to become a hot, hip new genre in its own right, is:
Gangsta Jazz
That's right baby. Some examples include:
Duke Ellington, Detective
Thelonious "the Felonious" Monk, Mobster
Elvis Goes to Quantico
The Weather Report Underground
Art Blakey and the Jazz Murderers
Wynton Marsalis Wallace
Charlie "Jailbird" Parker
Personally I don't feel the Elvis concept quite works (and besides I liked the proposal for Elvis Presley and Mr Hoover better), but we'll see where that cat takes it. Nothing wrong with pushing the envelope.
Entries will be prose first chapters of the novel, plus brief outline. 3000 words for the chapter, 500 for the outline. Due 5 May 2005.
Competition's gettin' fierce!

How about the writers choose their own theme, but they have to write it as if they were on steroids.

phobias?Oooh... I like that one! As I was falling asleep last night, a single word flashed in my mind, in large, all-caps blue letters. Won't say what it was, but I'm curious if it'll be the theme. Probably not

If you are a male author--woman's story

Make sure I get this right, please.
I’m suppose to write about losing patience with an excessively flatulent weather predicting mobster Monk who has weird phobias that have to do with some Haiku torture aimed at Duke Ellington, Elvis, Art Blakey, Wallace & Parker. And I’m to write this in a steroidal male POV. Right?

Precisely.
Though, I don't see why you can't be a woman on steroids. Your call whether testosterone supplementation really does make a woman think just like a man or not.
Best of luck!

So? Were you close?Umm.... no.http://bestsmileys.com/sad/6.gif. Don't think I could've been more wrong if I'd predicted Jon Stewart would become the new Pope. That'll teach me to OD on cold medicine before I go to bed :gone:
