157 scripts to download

Just found this zip file with 157 scripts in PDF format to download in one.

There's some great scripts between them - from The Graduate to Juno. This way you have more than the 100 scripts you're supposed to read to become a succesful screenwriter :-)

WARNING: There's a small virus attached to the file. It didn't bite on me because I'm a mac user, but don't download if you don't know how to handle it!!!

I keep them on my computer for when I'm on the train or am offline and can't reach pages like scriptorama.

Hmm... I ran the downloaded file through my virus scanner but it came up clean and after extracting the files, nothing untowards appears to have been extracted with it. What exactly happened to you? Was it a virus, spyware, malware? Did it happen when you downloaded, when you extracted the files, when you opened a particular script? Some specifics might help narrow down the problem. It's also possible whatever you got came from the website rather than the downloaded file.

I'll let the link remain for now. If anyone's thinking of downloading, all I can say is it worked fine for me and although you naturally follow all links to websites at your own risk, if we get further reports of problems, I might have to consider taking it down.

There wasn't a virus in the zip archive I downloaded.

I just got a zip file with PDFs ... nothing else.

Definitely no virus. Not even a Word document.

I downloaded it too... but I did it on my work computer so if I get a virus I only destroy the entire WB network and possibly lose my job as opposed to crashing my laptop at home.

Seems to have worked so far...

I downloaded the file in a new folder opened in my desktop and extracted it there. Afterwards I copied it to the local disc (D) and then when I tried deleting the original folder on the desktop it wouldn’t delete. I kept getting a message saying that “access to the file is denied”. I immediately sensed the presence of a virus and ran my anti-virus programme ( Symantech), but it could not detect anything. To be on the safe side I went in for a “system restore” which promptly deleted the folder on my desktop, which again confirmed the presence of a virus.

When one downloads files free from the net one has to keep in mind that some people offer these freebies just to entice people to download them and pack in a virus as well.

Secondly not all viruses are immediately visible to the user. I mean they don’t go on doing strange things to your computer, but mostly remain quiet, making detection difficult.

Thirdly, even the best anti-virus programmes sometimes fail to detect viruses or malware etc,. Just because your programme can’t find anything doesn’t mean your computer is not infected and as I described earlier, the safest thing to do when in doubt, is to go in for a “system restore’, which is a failsafe way to get rid of unwanted programmes.

Finally, this might be problem on my system, I don’t know – just be careful though !

I suspect Symantech was correct - it didn't detect a virus.

Microsoft is pretty clear about warning users that "System Restore" will remove files from your desktop if you've added them.

Before you use System Restore, you should make sure that any critical files aren't residing on your desktop ...
I guess it is worthwhile to be careful, but you might have just assassinated a perfectly innocent zip file full of scripts!
