Well, I'm a fiction writer and I'm from Edmonton, but I no longer live there, so...

OTOH, there is quite a large fiction writing group in Edmonton that meets every month. The NaNoWriMo municipal liaison for Edmonton (SarahJanet at NaNoWriMo, I believe) has mentioned this a few times. It's quite active, so I'd suggest looking them up on the NaNoWriMo boards in the Edmonton regional lounge. :)
