View Full Version : St. Louis get-together?

I know there are several of you STL and metro east folks out there. It'd be fun!
We can plan a day in say March to give lots of people plenty of time to get it on their calendars.
Meet for lunch - Soulard (such a huge choice of restaurants there).
Anyone interested?
Stew21

NO ONE? Not even Williebee wants to meet for lunch in Soulard?
sheesh....

I live about an hour north of STL. I am 30k ahead of schedule and looking to goof off until time catches up with me.

Stew, sorry, didn't see this thread until I went to start one of my own today.
March sounds good to me. I'm out of pocket 11-15 March. Other than that, I'll put my driving eyes on. :)
Stew21
02-21-2009, 11:43 PM
Very cool!
I'm going to put this in my sig-line for others to see. It would be great to have a good sized group.
Maybe aim for the 21st?

Cool. If we do daytime, we might talk CHValentino into coming out into the light. (She works nights.)
Stew21
02-22-2009, 01:03 AM
We can do a daytime thing for sure.

Holy Schnike! Right up the road from me. I'll be there, with bells on (and nothing else). Please keep me informed, I don't have a driver's license (foolish mistakes), so is it alright if my wife comes? Or maybe a generous soul could offer a ride?
Stew21
02-23-2009, 11:25 PM
Your wife could certainly join!
And I don't know who lives closest to you, but I'm in Waterloo so already south and wouldn't be much of a detour at all if need be.

Yeah, you're not that far off, I'm about three miles south of the 255/270 exit at Telegraph. Crystal is a bit shy, so let me get back to you on it.

Hmm. We might be able to make it. It's a few hour drive, but my better half's never been to St. Louis.

Was there a time decided? And a place?
Could someone advise, please? I'll take off work if I have the needed amount of advanced notice.

Hey all, sorry! My schedule just got all mixed up and the weekend of the 21st isn't going to work for me. I think at least for me, this won't work until mid-April. I'm sorry!! I kept thinking it would work out, but it looks definitely that, at least for me, it won't this round.
All interested, please make date/time/location suggestions.

Ya'll know, if worst comes to worst, some of us here are going to be at Archon (the SF/F convention at Collinsville, IL.). Be happy to bump into some of you either there or at a nearby restaurant if you're not SF/F peeps.

When's Archon this year, Richard?
We had a blast a couple years ago when ya'll made your way to Collinsville.
Richard White

Archon is Oct 2-4, 2009. Should be a lot of fun this year. A little less chaotic than NASFIC was.

Start looking at calendars and choosing some ideas for meeting places.
we could do a lunch then Grant's Farm thing, or a Soulard thing, or a sunday Brunch thing.
Throw the ideas out there and we'll see what sticks.

I think the 17th is still fine.
though I haven't heard from many folks and we don't have a game plan yet.
How about Norton's Cafe in Soulard at noon? We can lunch together. (For those who want to have a beverage - they can and Norton's is great atmosphere on the patio in the spring.)
I know we have more STL folks around.

I'll have to see what I can arrange. Looks like that restaurant is in an easy location for use to get to. (Also, it will be closing May 2nd.)
I'll bring it up to the husband and see about kiddo arrangements.
Cella
03-23-2010, 11:06 PM
I don't know if Steve will be out of the hospital by then. I'll check with him, though and see if he'll feel up to it.
That day looks okay for me so far :)
Stew21
03-23-2010, 11:06 PM
really any place in Soulard would work - 1860's has great food and live music in the afternoons on the weekends. McGerk's is a great Irish place.
It's open for discussion for sure, but Soulard is the fun place in town - the most atmosphere.

The rumour from my surgeon's P.A. is that the ct scan yesterday (my 22nd since Dec. 15) was really good and Dr. Suen may remove the chest tube later this week and then I'll be discharged. So the 17th sounds great to me.

Things look good for me. I was discharged today, and no more chest tube! I've now had 23 ct scans and spent 99 days in the hospital since Dec. 1. Probably had at least 90 chest x-rays as well (had one nearly every morning). Crystal might join me--but if she doesn't, Stew or Cella, could either of you give me a ride back home when the fun has ended? (If Crystal does attend we'll have Baby Rachel with us.)

Did anyone choose a time or location? Maybe I missed it?
tjwriter
03-27-2010, 05:34 PM
In the most common thing that happens to me. I was reading through the mail. There was an offer from my university for discounted tickets to the local zoo. The date? April 17.
Then there was a letter from a cousin of mine requesting recipes for something she's doing for the family reunion (which I knew was sometime in April). The date of the reunion? April 17.
The first was easy enough to dismiss, but it looks like I won't be coming to St. Louis because of the family reunion. You guys have a great time and take plenty of pictures!

*oh boy, I love laying on the guilt! Just kidding, I can alway have Crystal find something closer to Soulard so she can pick me back up*
Stew, is it the 1860's? Did that one win the final vote?
Speaking of votes, AC/DC won the March Bandness tourny on K-She this year over Ozzy. I voted for AC/DC because they've never made it to the finals before. That concludes your St. Louis rock news.

aw guys. damn it. i can't come now. I spent most of the night sick. (Something I ate or flu). While I hate lying on the bathroom floor at home (sometimes the closest distance has to be the rule) ...I really can't conceive of doing that at 1860's. I've seen their bathrooms.
:(
I'm so sorry to miss it.

What do you guys think about giving this a try again? All the surgeries should now be behind me. I had my stomach surgery July 23, and I'm healing really well, so if we could set something up in a month or so it would be great.
Maybe around Sept. 29? That's my 5 year Sober Anniversary. It would be an awesome way for me to celebrate. And I don't mind if you all drink. I don't have a history of drinking with any of you, so there's no old memories to dredge up. What do you say, St. Louisans? Let's show AW how a real city does it!

I was hoping to see everything was planned and polished when I got here today. Damn:( Of well. All I needed to know was the time so I could tell my babysitter. Oh, that and then find a ride, lol. Which brings me to my next question... When a date finally gets agreed upon, if needed could somebody possibly pick me up? If anybody happens to be travelling near the Arnold (just south of St. Louis, actually I'm right across the Meramec River from South County) that is.
I'll check back later today to see if even just a couple of you decide to do it, my neighbor can babysit anytime. She's recently retired, and it gives her something to do, and Rachel treats her like a 3rd Grandma, and she loves to watch Rach.
Happy Saturday, St. Louisans!! GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
