Which is better NeoOffice or Microsoft Office for Mac

Which is better NeoOffice or Microsoft Office for Mac

I don't know anything about NeoOffice, but I have Microsoft Office for Mac. I've had no problems with. The only difference from Microsoft Office for a PC to MOfM is mine doesn't crash! :-) Good luck finding your answer.

I had bad luck with NeoOffice a year or so ago. It just didn't work well for me. If I remember right it was very glitchy. I use Microsoft Office on my Mac and have yet to find anything that works better. You could always try NeoOffice first (since it's free) and if it doesn't meet your needs then shell out the money for MS Office.

It depends on what you want to do with it. Office 2008 for Mac, for example, have some DTP stuff, more templates, blah blah blah. But if you just want to write, you really don't need all that overhead. Office is a hog. Besides, NeoOffice is free.

I personally is switching over to iWork.

A lot of editors I know use Office (PC or Mac) for the track changes feature. I don't know about NeoOffice, but for the best compatibility try Office.

OpenOffice has a native Mac version, now. Try that instead of NeoOffice.

I'm not the biggest fan of MS Office. It's overpriced and the Mac version is rather lacking.

Personally, I suggest OpenOffice or iWork. OpenOffice is already free and iWork 09 has a free trial. It's much cheaper ($79) than MS Office and can export to .doc, .rtf, and .pdf for compatibility. Unless you really need uber-compatibility at the office for work or something or advanced features of Excel, MS Office is really overkill and not worth the price for most users.

The only thing that tripped me up at first--if you can't find options for what you want to do, a lot of them are in the Inspector, cmd+option+i.

I use Pages. Openoffice is sluggish, I wish it were better than Word, but that was not my brief experience.
Downloaded NeoOffice, but it just didn't feel right.

Pages opens documents very quickly from the icon, this is the major feature for me.

The downside is iLife is required, but this is the choice for Mac users in my opinion.

You're a bit confused there. Pages is part of iWork. iLife is a media suite included free with every Mac. iWork is the office package that costs $79. Not free, but still a hell of a lot cheaper than Office (unless sometimes if you're a student). And better everywhere except for Excel, IMO.

I still use AppleWorks, even though I've got Office for Mac. I've just never gotten on well with microsoft programs. I convert things as needed.

One of these days I'll update and get iWork and give Pages a whirl.
