I have written a novel Mermaid Song, a science fiction novel taking place in the 36th century AD. There is an episode where starships battle one another. I am looking for veterans who served on ships, particularly battleships that actually fought ship to ship--an extremely rare event. I am looking for what it was like to be inside these ships while in combat with another ship. I am looking at WWII because heavy guns were still being used rather than missiles. Contact from veterans of any navy at the time who experienced this would be much appreciated.
