Hello! There may already be a post for this but I can’t seem to find it. Please direct me to the proper location if there is. I really want to submit an article I have written to a Teen Magazine. (It’s about high school) I have no idea how to start or where to go. Any pointers for a new girl?
Thanks!

Hello Mrs Trujillo. Where do you want to submit the article?
Here?

Do you have writer's digest? That's usually one of the first places I look when I'm looking for a specific market. And if that doesn't work, I stroll to the bookstore and stare at magazine racks for awhile.

I would just like to suggest Jenna Glatzer's book. I have started reading it and I can't put it down. It contains a wealth of knowledge about how freelancers like you and I can get our articles into major publications. Her book is called Make a Real Living as a Freelance Writer and her website can be found here (http://www.jennaglatzer.com/freelance_writer.htm). She's also a member of this website (and the former owner if I'm not mistaken).
Good luck to you!

Crystal's right: Jenna founded this forum and was the original Editor in Chief of AbsoluteWrite.com (which she founded as well). Today her title here is Super Moderator.

I am in love with Jenna's book as well and have devoured it several times. If I'm not mistaken she first copyrighted the name Absolute Write as a business name for her writing, and eventually it became a website with this wonderful forum. Her book explains everything from where to find the right market to how to deal with tax issues.
I also suggest buying a copy of the Writer's Market guide. This book is a must-have for any book or magazine writer. It lists thousands of publishers and also offers several informative articles for writers. If you can't afford either of these books, do a google search for "teen magazines" or read through freelancewritinggigs.com daily updates. Once you find several magazines you feel may be appropriate, try to figure out which one(s) best fit with your article.
As always, best of luck.
