Caseyquinn has been so great in compiling our various links and helping to keep track of who's who on the list of AW Examiners. I thought we could use a sticky (hoping a moderator agrees) of our own for ease in keeping that going. This way, we don't have to keep going through the other thread to find one another. And if someone's too busy to post on AW right now we will know where to find them.

I think they said that it would go into paypal at the time you would normally get paid - and they pay for the month prior, so it could be a while. I'm also wondering if they wait until the contest is entirely over.

Wow wow wow! I'm so impressed and have been clicking through reading reading reading. Though it looks like the Examiner is a lot less money, it impresses me as a way to make money by just writing about whatever catches your interest, as in a blog. THat seems to be a fine thing indeed. I have to say that I'm one who's held back for a long time feeling insecure, but seeing everyone lined up like this, and all of you with different interests, gives me a very positive vibe to push forward.

I'd like to do two lists on my site and have all of our sites listed in them. One for local and one for national. There are a lot of locals!

Don't ask me why I did this, but I set up a googledoc to track all the examiners. It's here (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pELAHGso4ySj12DNoNDVzaQ). This way any of us can update it without one person having to keep updating their original post here.

Also, I'm subscribing to everyone's email notifications, that way I can be lazy and instead of going to fave examiners all the time, I just go to each person's new post when I get the email!

MacAllister, sounds like you have a lot of experience with Content Management Systems. Does Joomla--or Examiner's system--seem more than normally unreliable to you?

I save as I go along. Especially if I have images, I often copy the code too. But even so, I'm constantly getting trapped. I've saved something, I go to save next time and the entry is blaring red, "Recovered!" Which means a not all of it has been saved. Aaargh!

That's just one example. There are other wonky things about that "publishing tool." I can't imagine how people that don't know HTML complete anything.

Honestly, I know eff-all about CMS. But as a rule? I always, always compose stuff in a text editor, (I use BB edit) and never, ever in the compose box of ANY system. Learn a little html -- seriously, it's NOT hard. About ten tags are all you really need to know -- because those wysiwyg boxes are full of crap code.

I use BBEdit, a Macintosh Text editor, and hand-code the html.

No problem! I'm still with Examiner at this moment, too, but it also fits my mod-ly duties. I love organizing things! :)

I just spent the last hour and a half going through and adding usernames beside the individual Examiner listings. I remember when Casey originally created the other list, there were names of the people who wrote for those sites, and I always liked that. So, I added the usernames here at AW so we can see who's who!

I also hyperlinked each listing, rather than having the link after the title, edited a few typos in city names, and corrected a broken link.

I'm a little too OCD sometimes. And it's WAY past my bedtime now.

I finally took the plunge, and am now the Boulder Writer Examiner.

OMG, this is a fantastic list that I'm surprised I didn't see it sooner! (I come to AW sporadically and don't have time to explore everything I'd like!)

Anywho, I have two topics. Congratulations and welcome! I actually have much better luck with my local column than my national one, so local isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I've made....35 cents so far! LOL woot. Honestly, though, I'd happily write on this topic for free (and have, in the past) so any revenue is just a spiffy bonus.

I'm glad that they're not forcing you to write localized content, though, only encouraging you to do so with the incentives and such. It's really hard to write locally about online stuff!

Income seems to be dependent on your topic and whether you can build a platform for yourself. I got in early, and I have a popular topic, so I do okay money-wise. "Local" is actually a hook for me; many of my articles give readers theme park hints from an Orlando local's perspective. I actually had strangers come up to me during this year's Halloween Horror Nights to thank me for my touring plan! If you can get yourself out into virtual pet online communities and get yourself known as an expert there, you might be able to boost your income. Otherwise, I know what you mean...I absolutely love writing my column.

What got me started on it is being such a junkie for those sites, I was always writing guides/reviews/tips/etc. but I'd never be able to settle for any one site for long. Short attention span, maybe, LOL. but, anyway, I started blogging about it, and then forgot about that for awhile....and realized in the time I completely ignored it, I had a few thousand hits. Made me realize that this is 1.) a topic people are searching (albeit not a LOT) and 2.) one nobody else is really getting involved with.

I do definitely need to sneak out more on the sites themselves to leverage myself^^
