If an agent says send it on by email, I'm HOPING that means as an attachment? Cause I'm gonna be cursing the Fates (those 3 ugly beautiful hags...errr.. women from greek mythos) for a LONG time if I've gotta copy the entire MS into the body.
So... attachment or paste into body of email? Which?
thanks,
Jen
p.s. yes, I know, probably a dumb question, but it's been a looong day and I'm a bit shocked by the request. :D (you really don't want to know the other reason for my being a bit brain dead... hehehehehe...will say it was a lot of fun, though. ;))

Attach it as a Word (.doc) until instructed otherwise.

You can always ask. Or just say "I have attached my file as a Word doc, let me know if you prefer another format and I'll resend."

Attach, and best of luck! :D

thanks, all! this is the first to ask for the full thing, so.... we're gonna need all the luck we can get! (I don't think the family rabbit counts as a good luck charm... though he IS named for the god of luck in our novels.... :D)

You could just email them back and ask.
To confuse the issue, I have never seen an agent ask for an attachment.

I have. :)
But emailing back to ask is a good idea.

Sigh, having an agent suspended from the rafters begging for "attachments" is not the same thing. It's completely out of context.:tongue
That was a joke.
Don't hit me.

I'd go with RTF rather than DOC. But otherwise, attachment.

Lol. Actually, he asked for multiple attachments. I was accommodating. =) Wonder which one of us that says more about?

(I don't think the family rabbit counts as a good luck charm)...
Only if you cut off its foot and use it as part of a key chain.
Before you send anything, just ask the agent in which format he or she prefers to receive documents. This way, you can't go wrong.
Good luck. :)

agreed with attachment, most agents I've been reading say attachments by request only

Can a mod add something like "(send agent requests as attachments?)" to the thread title to give others a clue what this thread is about?

Agents don't like to receive query materials in an attachment, but entire manuscripts have to go into one. There is a limit to the size an email can be and there's no way to ensure it will format as a double-spaced manuscript with appropriate whitespace otherwise.

This. I don't know anybody who opens unsolicited attachments - except people who want viruses - but if they've asked for your manuscript that's another matter.

Mine did. When he requested the full, he gave instructions on how he wanted it sent. Word document, attached.

Ok I emailed the agent this morning (there's nothing on her website, publisher's marketplace or the company's site) and haven't heard back.
Suggestions???? Should I give her till monday or send it on?
I'd wait a bit longer. She isn't necessarily in her office today.

You need to take a digital photo of each page, and email each page in a separate email.
Just kidding!
I have had requests for email, and was even told to use a simple file name so it would upload to their kindle easier.
Good luck!

Best of luck, Prawn! And thanks! For both the luck and the laugh! I've always hated waiting (yet I want another child... go figure...) but I'm getting better!!!
maybe I can keep myself distracted with work tomorrow. ;)
