I'm editing something in OpenOffice, which i never use. While looking for a name in the ms, I hit ctrl F, and found it.

But now, when i try to navigate down one page at a time, it thinks i'm still looking for the name and won't let me navigate. Nothing i do will remove the key word from the dialog box -- it just reappears. The page down button on the right now acts as a search button.

What am I overlooking?

huh. Haven't seen that. And get my version to duplicate the description.

Ctl +F opens the find. Then Ctl + Shft + F repeats the same search.

My arrow key just takes me to the next line.

ETA: I mean, my page down just jumps me down a page.

Did I misunderstand your issue?

Did you perhaps do a "Find all" the first time, and it is showing you highlighted instances of the word?

I dunno; but I'd save the file, and Quit, then go back to what you were doing.

A quit and go back can solve problems in a lot of software!

Well, like most things, it was simple. i'm just not familiar with OO.

I clicked on the navigation button, and it brings up a table which assigns various functions to the up and down arrows. For some reason it was set on the search function -- all i needed to do was click on the "page" icon.

Only took me an hour to figure out. The answer was too obvious for you guys. I miss my WordPerfect.

I miss my WordPerfect.

Oh, yeah. I notice that people are buying netbooks, and installing DOS so they can run Word Perfect. I can see that.

Me, I miss MacWritePro/MacWrite II on the Mac. Lord, do I miss it.

I miss my WordPerfect.

If you install a DOS emulator like DOSbox (http://www.dosbox.com/) you may still be able to use it.

If you install a DOS emulator like DOSbox (http://www.dosbox.com/) you may still be able to use it.Oh I can use it, and do. But editors use Word these days, and although i can always save as a word doc, i need to use the track changes feature in Word when emailing back and forth for editorial revisions -- I no longer even submit a paper copy.

So want to or not, I'm joining the herd.

There are versions of WordPefect for Windows! You don't have to revert to the klutzy DOS era. Yeah, yeah, I used WordPerfect 5.1 myself. But now I have WordPerfect 12, and there is an even newer version.

Word has only a copy of inherent advantages over WordPerfect: Styles work better in Word; and the "track changes" feature in Word is truly wonderful. I wonder at the fact that Microsoft came up with something so nice. ;)
