I posted a link to Done Deal . In the case, a fraudulent producer hired people, had them work on a production, and apparently never had money to pay them.
While obviously a lot of screenwriters get rejected legitimately because of poor concepts or poor writing, I also think a lot of people maybe getting rejected because certain so called producers who asked for them to send in the scripts never really had the resources to make a film or to get distribution.
A lot of people want to make themselves sound big. What better way than to claim to be a producer?
As a friend of mine in LA said, LA isn't a user friendly city. It's full of flakes and fakers.
A person who has to reject a lot of money because he or she doesn't have any money, btw, isn't going to come out and tell you that.
I'll also add that I knew a scamster who supposedly bought indie films, but his whole operation was really an attempt to fleece investors.
