Hey guys, I'm Kadee, and I'm new to AbsoluteWrite and I had a question that wasn't addressed in the guide.

I know this might sound a little silly, but are we allowed/supposed to post writings of our own to be critiqued? I was on Yahoo! Answers and I saw someone link to the website saying you could get your work critiqued here, but I've browsed through the forums and I didn't see anyone's work....(That's a run-on sentence if I ever saw one.)

Thanks for helping out the noob, guys. :]

:welcome: to AW!

You can post work for critique in the Share Your Work forum (also known as SYW). This is a password protected forum (password vista). Take a look at the threads stickied to the top of the "Main SYW - Start Here" subforum for more information.

ETA: Also take a look at the threads stickied to the top of the Newbie Forum for more information on AW and where things are.

Hi Kadee, welcome to AW. :)

You can post your work for critique in Share Your Work. It's under the section AW Writing Lab and the password is vista. You have to be logged in to see it since it's password-protected, so you may have missed it before.

You should also make sure the work is it's best and consider reading critiques of other work to get an idea of what to expect.

It's often a good idea to look at other people's work in your genre and see what they're being told. That will save you making the same mistakes we've all made - you'll look really smart! And welcome and good luck.

And when you ask for critiques, please be sure to tell critters how tough you can take; some of us, like me, are delicate flowers whose feelings are shattered at the least sign of something not being the pearl I believe it to be.

Others want their crits complete with whips and chains and spiked jock straps.

Panda, I love your avatar. It's so pretty.

Thank you, :) it's from a movie Bright Star, which is all about Keats and his love affair with Fanny Brawne.

It's really good if you like period pieces, and poetry, which I love both lol.

Alex, I'll take things men wouldn't say to each other for $200.

Okay, firstly, I am pretty new to this AW (Absolute Write) forum too... I found out I had to post things in the SYW (Share your Work) Forums... but I had no idea where it was...
SO:
1. Go to the main forum page: http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/
2. Scroll down until you see the blue bar that says 'The AW Writing Lab'
3. The first Forum listed underneath 'The AW Writing Lab' bar is called 'Share Your Work' (SYW)
4. Click it
5. There are subforums in the SYW forum for different types of literature - things like: Poetry, Horror, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Screenwriting, Humor, Childrens ect...
6. The first subforum in the SYW forum you should look at is 'Main Share Your Work Board - Start Here'. It's just pretty much all the guidelines, shouldn't take too long to go through - and they're pretty helpful.
7. Once you've read the 'Main Share Your Work Board - Start Here' you can go crazy. If you have any questions about how you post certain things you can go...
Here:
http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=175
Here:
http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=35
Here:
http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27

Also, if you read other peoples posts, you can generally get the idea of how people go about asking for critique and everything like that...

Hope I helped!

You can put (parts of) your work in a section on this forum called "Share Your Work"--that is, if you don't mind other writers nitpicking about details that are of little to no interest to non-writing readers.

Charissa, that's a very helpful post. Thank you.

Overall, I think the OP has figured out where SYW is and what it's for, so I'm going to close this thread.
