I feel like the plague a bit - diarist.

Any advice on how to sell something that is best compared to the work of a diarist? I feel like in trying to honestly portray my work to agents, I'm getting thrown in the trash damn quick, and I'm not sure I blame them. This work has merit, I'm sure of it, but it someone asked me to read their diary, let alone publish it, I'd probably be glad to get out of it.

So... what is to be done? Ideas are welcome. Solid advice based on experience with this sort of thing would be wonderful.
