I can't find these books at a local libary. I was told that there are four vows in each book, each one containing a promise. I am planning to read the books (got to put a hold on monday since my libary card isn't working and the first book is out)

Does anyone know what these four vows are? they go book to book

Vows? I'm not sure. I remember reading this series and loving it (oh, I second moving it to the Sci Fi/Fantasy forum), but...there are 4 different worlds explored, each based on the 4 classical elements. The main character, Haplo, doesn't seem like the kind to keep any promises he makes, though, so I'm not sure about vows.
