I am really new at scriptwriting and I haven't see anywhere the rules of displaying text. Like in my script I have a count of days and this is what I put in my script.

BLACK SCREEN - DAY 1

Is that correct? Or is there something special you have to do for text? Or what? Also for subtitles, how do you do subtitles?

Thanks in advance.

You use Supers, like such

SUPER: "Episode IV: A NEW HOPE"

or

SUPERIMPOSE: "Subtitle"

...on what you want to do?

TITLE: Paris, France. 1944.

...displays the text on a black screen.

SCROLLING TITLE: France, 1944. The Allied advance meets determined German resistance in the hedgerows and trenches of this war-torn country. This is the story of one particular American infantry unit, commanded by a determined young officer who knows his men think him a coward just like his pappy. He will do anything to prove them wrong...

...blah blah and up she goes while we all fall asleep.

SUPER: Paris, France. 1944.

...displays the text over the picture, in the center of the screen.

SUBTITLE: Paris, France. 1944.

...displays the text over the picture, at the bottom of the screen.

With dialogue, you can use a parenthetical to indicate spoken language, and whether you want English translation subtitles to appear:

FRENCH SAILOR
(in French)
Now there is a pretty girl!

FRENCH SAILOR
(in French; subtitled)
Now there is a pretty girl!

GERMAN SOLDIER
(in German)
Halt, or I will shoot!

GERMAN SOLDIER
(in German; subtitled)
Halt, or I will shoot!

...and you don't have to include the foreign translation, just the English.

Thank you very much! I couldn't seem to find it anywhere and I didn't want to do it wrong. I really appreciate this. :Hug2:
