I applied to DS about a month ago and was turned down. I think it was because of my samples. They were similar to how-to articles, but they didnt have the numbered formatting of eHow, which is what i've read they want to see. I probably should have made samples specifically for the application instead of using my AC work. I also probably could have made my resume a little more in-depth.

So is that the end of it or can I reapply with them? Can anyone give me some suggestions on what else I could do to better my chances?

I see everyone else getting accepted with no problems so it's been a little disheartening.

I would reapply. I got in last winter, so they may have changed their requirements. I submitted a how-to in their format for my sample. I've heard of people posting a few how-tos over at eHow first, then using thoses as samples. eHow only pays ad revenue, but you might want to go there to "warm up." You can also get a good feel for the basic format there.

BUT remember that much of eHow is written by regular off the street writers. You just sign up to get into eHow. It's hard to figure out which writers are the pros, because they don't label us differently. I write under Stlscout. Maybe some of other DS writers can share our DS handles so you can see a varity...I'm OK, but I'll admit that my DS writing is not my most stellar.

Thanks for your reply. I'll definately be applying again. Im just going to put a little more time into my samples and resume. I really need to get in there...iv'e been writing for AC and other seo clients from forums and stuff and this 1c a word or less crap is just killing me... and its not improving my writing chops at all.

Thanks for the help!

I applied and was turned down; I applied again about 2 weeks later with an article on a different topic as a sample, and was accepted. All of the other info was the same; I think my subject matter was not a good fit for them with the first sample.

Thank you very much... I was a little worried that I blew my chance. How did you go about reapplying? Did you just create another account on demand? I have an account on there it just says "ineligible" under "writer".

I write a blog that covers topics related to space-- NASA, space tourism, even UFOs, etc. My sense is that's not the kind of article DS uses. Am I right?

I would reapply. Don't give up. Show them different samples of clips. Good Luck!

You may be surprised at the amount of science related articles they have available. Even if there are not many titles you would like to write for, you can always use it for some extra cash now and then when good titles do pop up.

52Greg:
you got me curious, so I did a title search. Can you make a liquid fuel rocket? Or rockets out of stump remover? How about, 'how to name a star through NASA?' Oh, here's one...Diet program developed by the space program!

Ok, you're not going to find ubber cool NASA titles all the time, but if you can write, you can write about anything. I'm sure there's other things you'd find easy to write about too. Give it a shot!

I also got turned down by DS.

I submitted a research paper on diabetes that I recently completed for a college course I"m taking. I believe their reason for turning me down was somewhere along the lines of we're not looking for that type of writing right now.

At the time, I did not realize that DS focuses on seo articles. I now have many seo articles under my belt.

Is that what I should submit if I apply again?

Do I reapply with the same name and email address?

How long should the sample be?

I currently write for a small business that passes on work to me. Can I use those articles as clips to apply to DS?

I also have a couple of how tos over at ehow but they aren't anything spectacular, yk? I do have more ideas for stuff I could write over there. Maybe I'll post some and see what happens.

Thank you for any and all the help you can offer this newbie.
