Scrivener wonderings...

I've remotely fallen in love with a program called Scrivener. Seems to be just what I need, but I was wondering a few things:

Here's what I'm considering:

1) I've got a defunct mac and I'm considering making my Mac OS X Snow Leopard into a VMWare virtual computer.

2) I'll download the trial for Scrivener.

Before I start this - I am only basically computer literate - I'd love to know if you can make Snow Leopard into a vmware file, and second if Scrivener is really worth the effort.

Anyone got any views on this?

The short answer is that you'll likely find that running OSX in a VM is more trouble than it's worth. A lot of the information that you'll find won't be current, or specific enough to your case, or the procedure will require something you don't have. It's possible to find step-by-step instructions to suit your exact situation, but it's not very likely, and that's what you'd need if you're not an accomplished geek.

I own Scrivener, but it's on a MacBook that I never use. I'd love to be able to run it on Linux, and I know that I could do it in a VM, but I don't think it's worth the bother. I just use Zim (the desktop wiki) for outlines, notes, and rough work, and then OO Writer for the ms.

Unless you're fairly sophisticated and intimately comfortable with the Unix command line, you will have problems.

Why not fix the Mac?

Thanks. Sort of what i figured. But Scrivener still looks good. Would be nice to have all the loose bits and ends in one handy place.

I just saw about half a year's salary flash by...

The mac got about 5 litres of liquid over it when it was still running. It said *bzzzzt* and didn't work any longer.

A mate dropped a bucket on it when we were cleaning out smoke infested walls when I moved in here.
