I am writing a scene, in which my MC sees a truck, and I do not know what to call this type of truck.
It is one of those Budget rental trucks, only this one is privately owned.
One of those trucks that are a little bit longer than a van or pickup, but the bed is boxed, (panelled?), and is higher than the cab. In my story, the truck is owned by a band, and it;s used to transport their equipment.
I know that there is a specific term/name for this type of truck, but I can't remember it.

I would look for a site devoted to trucks.

Ditto smcc, that's a box truck, it's a generic term used for any truck that is basically a box on wheels.

sometimes trucks are known by how much (or how many square feet) they can hold.

You can also call it a panel truck.
The one you're describing is usually referred to as a box truck. A little bigger one is called a 5-ton box truck then a 7-ton then a 10-ton. I think they go as high as 20-tons at about 40 feet long. Bigger than that, you're getting into tractor-trailors.

What you describe is usually referred to, at least here in San Francisco, as a bob-tail truck.

Or, at least in Canada, a cube van.

in writing, less is more. The reader fills in the gaps, applying their own ideas of what things are. Unless its somehow crucial to the plot (the entire story set on a hurtling truck for instance), don't bother with too much description - it puts the brake on your story...
