Licenses for private detectives in the UK?

My current WIP is based around an character who works as an private detective.

My question is, since the book is based in England, if there are any requirements for a private detective to have some form of license? If so, what does it entail to get one?

I don't believe there is at the moment, but moves have been afoot to create one for some time.
