i need a reality check...a friend said these sukk like an oreck, but i think
the concept is timeless...am i deluded? qualuuded? what do you think? good, bad, ugly, irrelevant?
The Day the Earth Stood Still is a 1951 science fiction film which tells the story of a humanoid spaceman who comes to Earth to convince its leaders to learn how to live in peace.
Klaatu (Rennie) arrives in a flying saucer on The Mall in Washington, D.C., wearing a silver spacesuit and accompanied by a large human-like robot called Gort (Martin).
Helen Benson, son Bobby befriend the spaceman.
Klaatu, played perfectly by Michael Rennie originally…how about Jim Caviezel, George Clooney, William Shatner, Robert De Niro, John Travolta, Robert Duval, or???
1)present time … Klaatu and Gort have returned to earth, with more warnings concerning nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction.
2)Scene is at the Mall in Washington, D.C., or wherever…spaceship, Klaatu, and assembled scientists…
3)Klaatu—“I have summoned you leading scientists, from all over your world, just as I did over fifty years ago…to reiterate the gravest of all warnings about the future of your planet…
4)Gort emerges from spaceship…everyone chatters… Klaatu lifts eyebrows and head slightly, as if querying Gort… Gort nods head upwards slightly in recognition, and…
5)Klaatu continues…”I will continue with these gravest of all warnings in a short while…first, I need to speak with my superiors…”
6)Klaatu follows Gort back into the spaceship, and is led to a space-age table upon which lies a can/bottle of coca cola, pepsi, miller, bud… (or a plate of White Castle hamburgers)
7)Klaatu pours a glass, and takes a swig, and exclaims, as he is pumping his fist, “HOOOAHHH!!! that’s GOOOD!!!”
8)Klaatu grinning, to Gort, “Please schedule the next “earth crisis” much sooner!”
Klaatu arrives in a flying saucer on The Mall in Washington, D.C., wearing a silver spacesuit and accompanied by a large human-like robot called Gort. As Klaatu exits the saucer, he is welcomed not by politicians but by soldiers. When he offers a device as a gift to the humans, the soldiers raise their rifles and take aim at the hostile gesture. Klaatu slowly brings the device to his ear, and playfully exclaims, “Can You HEAR me NOW????” and then cracks up laughing, slapping his knee, “GOTCHA!!!!!” “ BWAAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH!!!”.
a)present time … Klaatu and Gort have returned to earth, with more warnings concerning nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction.

e)Within seconds, a brand new 2007 Lexus 475SC(Jag, Nissan, Infiniti, etc.) comes driving itself down the ramp…
f)Klaatu –“But first of all…I’ve had a very difficult journey, and I really do need to unwind a bit…see y’all in a couple of hours or so…” driver-side door of vehicle pops open…Klaatu waves goodbye...
Klaatu is shot by the American soldiers, and quickly says to Helen Benson(played by a. jolie or perhaps tea leonie) “You must go to Gort at once and give him this command…Klaatu Barada Nikto ! “ She is at the site of the flying saucer, with Gort standing guard, immobile. (eery space music playing) As she approaches Gort, she trips over some chairs, and panics…Gort lights up and starts approaching her…she panics further and forgets what to tell Gort…she reaches in her purse for anything to protect herself with and pulls out the car remote…pushing the buttons, the car chirps…Gort is drawn to her 2007 Lexus, jag, etc. parked near-by and falls in love with it(the car likes Gort too, headlights turn on and off, turn signal indicators also)…Helen now remembers and says the words, “Klaatu, Barada, Nikto!” over and over, but Gort is lost in love, as he strokes his new found love interest……………
Gort recovers from his affaire de amour and the command, “Klaatu, Barada, Nikto!” finally sinks in… so he makes his way over to where Klaatu’s body is stored in a prison cell with a barred window…using his melt-away-walls technique (space music) with his eyes lighting up, etc., he makes quick work of the wall and picks up Klaatu’s body…as they reach the vehicle that Gort ostensibly arrived in, the 2007 Jag, Lexus, Hummer…Klaatu miraculously comes to, and begins a nasty fight with Gort, to see who gets to drive back to the saucer…both lunging for the driver’s side door and getting pulled back alternately… “Beat it you bucket of bolts, I want to drive this beauty!!”
