I just missed out on a writing job 10 minutes from my house because I'm not familar with using InDesign or Quark! Writing jobs are few and far between in my area. Whine. . . Whine. . .Whine!

I just looked up InDesign and from what I see its about $700, which is out of the question for me. Also called our local VoTech thinking a class might be offered working with either or both of these programs. The lady had never heard of either. Any ideas where one might find it for sale cheaper?

Skip it Fern. These are typesetting and layout programs; they have steep learning curves and assume you already know a lot of document design. You need studly hardware for either, and Quark requires a hardward dongle, a thing you attach to a USB port, to authenticate you as a legit user. Both applications are updated every couple of years as well.

Look for other jobs, really.

Thanks for the advice, Medievalist. Think that's a bit over my head. I was thinking it was something along the line of PrintShop or some such.
