There's a script on the Screenplay Critique board entitled "I Hate New York."
I left a comment there that it was a great title -- one that, if a studio reader had 40 scripts on his or her desk, and wanted to pick out 4 or 5 to review, would definitely make the cut.
Anyway, it made me think: What are the most compelling titles you've heard? Ones that you'd simply have no other choice but to take a closer look at?
Ones that came to mind:
The Assassination of Richard Nixon
Throw Momma From The Train
Any others?

At the Austin Film Festival, Christopher McQuarrie discussed his ongoing attempt to make a movie about John Wilkes Booth. He talked at length about many interesting aspects of Booth's life that history chooses to ignore -- like:
- Booth was part of a conspiracy to kill the President, Vice President and Secretary of State simultaneously
- Booth was the most famous and most photographed man in the country, aside from Lincoln himself
- Booth had an older brother who was jealous of Booth's success and fame. Long after Booth's death his brother saved Lincoln's son from getting killed by a train.
Anyway, as a history buff (and I admit I didn't know much of what is written above), I'd love to see this story on the big screen. Sort of a Paul Harvey's "the rest of the story" for movie lovers.

That's one of mine. Could I be biased?
Okay, so that doesn't count.
Uh, ....... The Seeing Stone.
Hmm, same problem.
Wildfire.
Dang!
Actually, I haven't been reading many spec scripts lately.
And the ones coming out in the theaters don't grab me title wise either. It's the actors first that catch my eye and then the story line.
I agree though, "I hate New York" is a stand out from the crowd title.
