Hiya folks,
I'm a bit confused on where to find the best online free directory lists for available agents. From what I gather, the WGA E and W offer a list of agencies but not individual agents. I hear the Hollywood Creative Directory is good, but am having trouble finding the exact info at their website which I have as: www.ifilmpro.com Is there an online list the list individual agents and the scripts that they have and are representing. I really want to be focused and selective in who I send query letters to. I realize that one can read industry papers to find out who works for who on what projects but this seems somewhat tedious. I do have a very specific genera and would like to find the agents who have worked on similar projects thus saving everyone time including myself. Any advice on this subject is greatly appreciated.

You could browse the sales on Scriptsales.com
When projects are announced the trade papers tend not to credit individual agents anyway in the article if they work for a major agency. Good thing about Script Sales is that they will find this information out for you before posting their daily digest -- but that doesn't mean that the agent was largely responsible for getting that particular project sold, as that information isn't generally available, just that they were the writer's agent at the time. A manager, if they have one, will also be named and it may be that their manager caters more for that particular genre. But it will give you some sort of idea, at least, of who's involved with what. Particularly if the manager is also down as a producer -- that is a good indication that they took the script out themselves.
HCD has always seemed far to expensive to me considering what it has to offer. IMDBPro.com is much less costly and was good for agent and manager contact details last I checked (which was some time ago).

HCD is the cream of the crop.
The best online free directory may be everyonewhosanyone.com
The Tinsletown section is new, but the NY literary and publishing sections have been around for a long time and are considered one of the best resources available.
The good news is Gerard provides email addresses for the individual agents and in some cases even lists their clients.
The bad news - it's a pain to go through. The directory is on multiple web pages and he intersperses his often hysterical email correspondence with the agency listings. The listings also aren't in alphabetical order - he lists them by what he considers the biggest and best. You can search for an individual agency or agent by hitting CTRL F to do a find - that will search the entire directory and not just the page you're on.
He also has sections for major prod cos and indies.

If you want the best then get a month on Baseline's Infosource at Filmtracker.com. It's $60/month but also tracks projects in development and by comparison HCD's $20/week or yearly sub seems an expensive false-economy to me (although I've never used HCD in either form).
With Infosource you have client lists for agents and managers and from there you can see what their writers are currently working on and not only do your best to match your script to reps who work within the same genre, but check to see if managers are getting their clients any assignment work after the hyped spec sale, etc..
