View Full Version : The Acronym "WIP"

Oliveman

Ok well I've started to get to know the whole "culture" of the forums, and one of the Acronyms I've seen in almost every post and in many signatures, is "WIP". Now I know it means "Work In Progress", but it comes too close to "whip" to avoid connotations of the WIP whipping the author relentlessly till the WIP is finally finished and gets to RIP (another bad one). I was just wondering if anyone can come up with other creative acronym alternatives to this one we have grown to use all the time.

And I've already come up with "BIK" (Book in progress), which isn't much better.

Be creative! :)

For definitions used around the forums, see The Absolute Write Dictionary:

http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21648

By the way, BIC = Butt in Chair (see the "Learn Writing with Uncle Jim" thread).

BIK is too similar to BIC.

And you will never get people to change their acronym habits. You just won't :p

CB - current book, or CP - current project. Or PIP - project in progress (for those whose WIP is really giving them the PIP).

It must have something to do with the 'creativity' Oliveman was looking for. Creative spelling?

Who needs acronyms? I just call it the monkey on my back, my jonze, impending doom, or simply "it."

Listen, I know what people are really getting at when they say, "Hey, how's it going?"

Uh-huh. It. How's it going. Can't people stop badgering me about this project? People I don't even know keep asking me about "it", which implies that people I thought I knew, people I trusted, are talking about me behind my back, about me and my, um...WIP.

Also useful is the good, old-fashioned descriptor "sh!+", best snarled with a glass of kentucky bourbon in one hand and a cigar in the other.

Like this:

The broad came up to me and she said to me, she said, "Hey, tough guy. What's that you got there?"

I took one long drag of my cigar. I blew the smoke up to her face. "It's sh!+, baby. Nothing but sh!+. You want some bourbon, baby?"
