The main plot of my story is based on a girl forced to live with her abusive sister after both her parents were murdured for an unknown reason. Would it make a good plot twist for the sister to have hired the killers to ensure the older sister could harm the main character?

This sounds like a good story sweetie. May I recommend you rent an old movie that comes to mind?...Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. I think you'll enjoy it, now hang on some others will be by shortly.

It's an old, very old one Sweetie. It has Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in it. You'd really like it, though its scary...

It might. As long as it isn't immediately obvious to a reader that the sister was involved. I would suggest a "plant" to draw attention away from the sister; for example, a staged attempt on the older sister's life. Also, you'd want other characters who might have killed the parents (with motive, opportunity, and means).

and the older sister would have to have a really good motivation to go so far. You should consider that from the beginning a back story will be required to make it "reasonable and logical"

AC offered good suggestions as well.

I just wondered if the plot in general was a good idea. I have her as a bad guy in the story anyway. May as well make something bad happen with her, right?

Yup. What makes a bad person is the bad things they do. It's not enough for someone to "be" bad. They need to do bad things or they just aren't interesting. And they usually need a reason for being so bad. Is she jealous of sister perhaps?

That is a GOOD movie. Joan Crawford? It's a old movie about a crippled woman in her, I think 50's, who lives with an abusive younger sister. It has a great plot and an unusual ending. Yes, I like the idea of the sister planning the murder, but the question is why did she kill her parents and why take in the sister? Now if she killed her parents for the inheritance, would she still want to take her sister? Maybe the sister also has an inheritance that the older sister wants? She has to keep the younger sister alive to get the money? But you'll need to have a reason why the parents were killed.
