These made me laugh...

Monica Chan,

"But who will avenge him? If only there were a group of 'avengers,' if you will, organized for that purpose."

Herbert Mandelbaum,

"Yet another intelligence failure by S.H.I.E.L.D.. How many more screwups must we endure before Bush fires Executive Director Nicholas Fury?"

Diego Lopez,

"Oh, man! Why are all the really cool assassinations wasted on make-believe people?"

Make mockery, if you will! But it still saddens me, damn it.

(even though, old and jaded now, I know he'll be back.)

Why do people have to make light of death? That's just sick.

You know, when Superman died, the comic he died in came with a black armband with the Superman logo on it (just like the ones that most DC heroes wore after he died). I remember having one, but my arm wasn't thick enough to wear it. It eventually got lost, which saddens me no end.

That whole Superman death really made an impact, didn't it?

Have you considered therapy? I'm sure it would help ease the pain.

There really was nothing you could have done. Doomsday would have crushed you like the puny human you are. And wearing that armband wouldn't have prevented the curious, ill-conceived, energy-based Krytonian thing that happened.

It really wasn't your fault, PeeDee. Have a good cry and let it go, pal. Let it go.

We laugh to hide the pain.

On the inside we're crying, getting those thick runny nose-candles and are dropping to our knees, raising our arms to the brooding rain-clouds, swelling aboves and crying, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! !!!"

It's not sick, it's a coping mechanism.

Now you're projecting, but that's OK. You just let it aaaaaaaaaaaaall out. This is a safe place for you to release those feelings.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZD

OK, well, that's our time up for this session. I feel that we've made some terrific progress today. Really moved forward.

Same time next week?

You'd best spank that monkey, then!

*grumble* You know, it's a funny, thing, but the Captain's death did kind of bum me out, not to the extent Superman's death did when I was a kid, but I was a little grim at the thought of it.

Joe Quesada has said that Captain AMerica may return, but it won't be Steve Rogers inside.

Even THIS has been done before. The Flash (Barry Allen/Wally West) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan/John Stewart) Iron Man (Tony Stark/That Guy who was "Man'O'War for awhile) and so on.

But the precedent we can really note is that even in all those cases, the original has always come back. Barry Allen returned. Hal Jordan came back. Tony Stark is still around. And another odd thing ot note, in all three of those cases, they were bad guys at their return (except for Iron Man, who's more total-bastard type right now).

So I dont' think this is the end of Steve Rogers either.

Not touching that one.

And I think that's a testament to the symbol the character is. It could also be the way he "died" as well. Take Superman. he goes down swinging, doing what he does, saving innocents and makes the ultimate sacrifice. By comparison, Cap goes out like a punk. Then there's the "realistic" aspect that we could all get shot but chances of us going down to a genetically engineered behemoth are pretty slim.

Joe Quesada has said that Captain AMerica may return, but it won't be Steve Rogers inside.

Not like he might lie. But that aside, if it'll bump sales, he'd do it tomorrow. And he won't be big cheese forever.

Even THIS has been done before. The Flash (Barry Allen/Wally West) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan/John Stewart) Iron Man (Tony Stark/That Guy who was "Man'O'War for awhile) and so on.

The James Bond effect I think. Sean Connery is James Bond. Everyone who followed merely played Bond. Roger Moore did more movies, but Connery is Bond. And it's not even like you could say, "Well, John Stewart was the GL when I started reading so he's my fave." Because if you get into a long standing book, you'll go get back issues and see why that characters stayed around so long and like the original.

Batman has gone through many incarnations in his character. From a variant on the TV series, all the way through to lone, nigh-insane thug, and all points in between. Different creatives come in with different takes on the character.

So I dont' think this is the end of Steve Rogers either.

Me either. The serum and/or mutant thing I suggested would work well within the continuity, but let's be honest, they can pull some kinda half-a$$ed idea and write it, and folks will buy it.

I was unsure whether to mention it or not, but my Green Lantern theory is only slightly accurate, in that there are 7,200 Green Lanterns, since it's the Green Lantern Corps. But the point still stands, in that "green lantern comics" shifted their focus away from Hal Jordan, who died, to John Stewart and Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner.

I have 20 never-opened polybagged death of supes issues. Name a price and I'll mail one over.

I also have an unopened Ren and Stimpy #1, with the scratch and sniff nose thingy.

Mein Gott, I remember the Ren & Stimpy comic. It smelled terrible. It was awful.

And I bet the odds of my wife saying "Sure, spend money to buy a comic that you own in graphic novel form already" are down there with "Yacht? Price tag? What price tag? Go get it!"
