Hello everyone, apologies if this should have been posted in a diferent thread, but I'm a newbie here so please forgive me!

I wondered could anyone help and tell me of some agents in New York City who;

1) Have an excellent reputation
2) Are a small independent agency (not like The William Morrison Agency)
3) Represent SCREENWRITERS and authors

While we're on the subject anyone know of an agent in North Carolina looking for the same charachteristics of the one in the first post?

None in North Carolina that are WGA signatory,..

An agent doesn't have to be in the state you live in. It's nice to have face to face time, but not neccesary. Also keep in mind that the agnecies that are in NY and CA have greater pull and access to producers and studios, especially those in CA.

But it is also easier to get an agent from another state, so it's a trade off.

My advice is to query everyone on this list. Any agent is better than no agent.

Now what if there are agencies that are not on this list that you hear from somewhere else? That's okay. This list is just those who the WGA has has dealings through their guild members. Not being on the list isn't a sign of being shadey or anything else.

When looking for any agent. Make sure they don't ask you for money. Make sure they are licensed agents. Make sure you like them. Make sure they have an open or short term contract. Make sure they can help you. You won't get proof for all those answers but if you go to buy a car and have a bad feeling about the salesman... well you know... the same holds true for getting an agent.

http://www.scriptpimp.com is a website you can join that has an extensive list of producers, managers, and agents. they give a lot of information - the one's most important for us: who will work with new writers, what kind of material they're looking for, and exactly how they want the query sent

With all this in mind... are mass queries really reliable? Do they work?

What's your comment on such services.

I used scriptblaster and I can safely say that it is highly recommended.

I did an email blast for my script's website, The Eyes of Mara, at www.theeyesofmara.com, and in the first three days of each of those blasts, my visit stats on the website went up drastically and I got 18 read requests.

Some of my friends have used it too with good results and one got her agent that way.

Well worth a hundred or so bucks.

I haven't used soyouwanna yet, but I know people who got good results too.
