FIRE AND ICE
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

This should probably be a "rate-a-poem" in the discussion section. Great poem BTW. I always loved this one.

Righto, Dirk. Over to Poetry Discussion.
Welcome, writerraven!
Beautiful poem, winterraven! After reacquainting myself with Frost's work recently, I've decided he's definitely a favorite.

Acquainted with the Night
I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain --and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.
I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,
But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height
One luminary clock against the sky
Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

Good stuff Mr. Haskins... I've heard "Fire and Ice" before but never knew it was Frost. Tommorrow I go by a book.. Very cool writerraven.

This is the first Frost poem I'd ever heard and it's still my favorite:
Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Eve
Whose woods these are I think I know
His house is in the village though
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow
My little horse must think it queer
to stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
the darkest evening of the year
He gives his harness bells a shake
to ask if there is some mistake
the only other sounds the sweep
of easy wind and downy flake
The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
and miles to go before I sleep
and miles to go before I sleep
