Cool! That's just a few hours away. If we can find enough AWers maybe we can find a spot somewhere in between (like Tulsa, maybe?) and meet!!!

I talked about setting up an OKC gathering (there are - or were - some Texans who were interested) and could never get a good date.

I'm currently in McAlester (OK). In the middle of September, I'll be in Eureka Springs until the middle of October, though. :)

I recently returned from Eureka Springs - lovely place. I someday hope to spend time at a writer's colony there called Dairy Hollow. On my last trip, I went by it a number of times.

WCDH is wonderful and Jane is great! :)
I was there for a week in June. I was supposed to have been there all month but I sprained my lower back and had to come home early. I go back September 18 to finish my residency there. Then I'm going to the Ozark Creative Writers' conference from October 11 to 13. :)
Johnnysannie, if you want, I can send you some info about WCDH.

I'll be there again on Sept. 18. In June, I only stayed for a week because I had sprained my lower back while we were traveling to California and back. So I arranged it to where I could go back and finish the residency at the writers' colony and I'll go straight from there to the Inn of the Ozarks for the OCWI conference. :)

Just an FYI to whoever...
I'm leaving here Sunday so we (Grandma, Mom, & I) will be in Eureka Springs Sunday night. We were going to just leave Monday morning and stay one night then go to the Writers' COlony Tuesday and they'd come back home, but they decided that one night wasn't enough and they didn't want to rush the trip. Can't say I blame them.
So Sunday/Monday/Tuesday just in & around town then from Tuesday until October 11 at the Writers' Colony (actually going to be there for a Poetluck) and October 11 - 14 in & around town & at the Ozark Creative Writers conference.
Wow. That makes it sound busier than I feel like it'll be. :)

I can tell this post hasn't been touched in awhile but I am right on the KS/OK border, SEKansas! Was just going to see if any that have already posted here are still around or if there are new members that live close by that haven't posted!
Bahamutchild, I'm not sure if you still are around here and post but I love how you have your location listed! I'm about 20 minutes away from you in Coffeyville, KS!

I'd forgotten all about this thread. Sorry Muse, I've moved back to Delaware state. Didn't even know there was a Delaware in OK.
Hopefully you can find some peeps around you. Meanwhile there's plenty to see on the forum. :)

Okay, peeps... I'm tired o' this 'wishin' and hopin'! We're gonna start small and maybe work our way up.
Heads up, OKC and any of y'all who want to make the trek...
Ol' Boy and I will be at Ray's Cafe
2727 NW 50th St., Oklahoma City, at 11:00AM on
Saturday, August 30th, 2008.
Skelly! Popeyesays! Bring the Significant Other and join us! Ray's is a li'l ol' cafe style place with some great breakfasts, good burgers, etc., very reasonably priced.
Hope any and all of you can make it... if not, Ol' Boy and I will have a good meal all by ourselves, but we'd love to 'meet and greet'! :D

GRRRRRRRR! I just found this (thanks for the PM OFG). Dagonnit, this Saturday I work until 11a, and the my wife works 11a to 5p. Sucks to be us, huh? But I like this idea. And I LOVE breakfast at small cafe's. 2727 nw 50th...that's like around May, isn't it? Penn?
Anyway...it is but a minor setback. I'm sure we can hammer out some sort of meet-up time. OFG, I'll PM you tomorrow about the deal. I know my wife would love it, cuz we never do anything :)
I think this is the first time I've ever been in this forum. What an awesome idea. Actually meeting and talking with people. WhatEVER will they think of next?
:)

Well, by golly, let's make it dinner then! Since ya'll are the only ones who might be able to make it... how 'bout 6:30? 7:00?
Yes, it's just east of May Avenue on the north side of the street!

Got your PM OFG. I'm gonna tender a tentative yes...pending my wife's approval. Pretty much how everything works around here, actually :) The dinner thing works great...although I DO so love breakfast at a small cafe.
Anyway, looks like you folks will be there regardless...so barring any surprise from my wife, we'll be there. Okay if we bring our son, right?
eta: the wife is nodding yes...I think it's a go! :) Of course, she has very little interest in writing beyond if or not I become rich and famous. She's just as scared of tornadeys as we are though! Anyway, I'll be wearing a denim Notre Dame cap and in the company of an eight-year-old boy and an attractive Hispanic/American Panamanian woman. Flag us down! :D

So much for that great plan!
Ol' Boy and I took our Saturday night baths, put on clean clothes - shoes, even! - and loaded up to go to Ray's.
Got there at 6:30pm, just like we promised.
Ray's was closed! On a Saturday night!!! Ol' Boy's comment: "Write us outta this one, Joan Wilder."
So... we sat there 'til 7 and the parking lot began to fill up with guys who were going to play pool at the pool hall in the strip mall behind Ray's... so we left and had dinner at Zorba's.
That's what I get for not checking and for not getting any phone numbers!
JenNipps... I'm so sorry! If you drove up from Ada... GAH!tm
Skelly! And anyone else who made the effort... we'll try again another time and next time someone with some sense can check the meeting place for hours and days of operation!
*grumble*tm Why in the world would a restaurant be closed on Saturday night?!?!*grumble*tm

Absolutely correct! Mr. Parks funeral was held in the big church about 3 blocks from our house and he was laid to rest at one of the local cemeteries. He said he felt Fort Scott had grown and changed from the community where he grew up and his mother sent him away from as a teen. A display of his photos, including many of Fort Scott are on display here in town.
