I'm sending about 40 sheets of paper from D.C. to L.A. Does anyone know how much postage this is, or, alternatively, how much 40 pieces of paper weigh? I'm without a letter scale and I'm really bad at guessing these things.

You don't have a post office nearby? They can weigh it for you and even sell you sufficient postage. Do not underestimate the value of postal employees.

To repeat what I said in the other thread:

The post office in the village has an automatic postage machine that will weigh your package and print you a custom stamp. :)

Haha, yeah, I know. But seeing as I don't have a license, it gets a little tricky.

Darn, I thought you spelled male wrong. Ruined my morning. *stomps off to get some caffeine*

Also, I just weighed 40 pages. It's just shy of half a pound. If you go with half a pound's postage you should be fine, as I'm weighing laser printer paper and there's a staple to factor in.

Depends on the paper, too. 24 lb and 20 lb bond weigh different amounts. And you need to include any SASE weight, the weight of the envelope you're using to send it, and any staples, paperclips, binderclips, etc.

As a general rule, 40 pages will be about 7 ounces and cost $1.82 to go first class.

Here's a site that has a postage chart. (http://www.mirror.org/terry.hickman/Postage.html#Main%20Postage%20Menu)

It might not be completely up-to-date, but those are ballpark figures anyhow.
