View Full Version : Help! What gets your hormones raging?

reigningcatsndogs

I know there's already a music thread going, but I am looking for help for one or two specific pieces for a scene in my novel. What is the hottest, sexiest, most sensual piece of music you can think of? I'm talking one that just with the first few bars gets the old hormones raging, the one that, if your life was set to music, would be playing when you have the most memorable (either real or imagined;)) experiences!! And PLEASE!!! No one even suggest "It's Hard to be Humble"! Thanks for the help. I know I'll recognize it as soon as someone suggests it!

"Let's Get it On" -- Barry White

I know, TV uses that all the time, but it works for me ;)

It's probably a personal thing, since music is so subjective. What are your characters into? What kinds of music? Justin Timberlake's Future/Sex/Love/Sounds album would be current and has a great beat.

At this point in time, I can take it any direction as far as mucial genre is concerned. I would tend to lean away from stuff like rap, because I just can't wrap my brain around that. Then again, I would listen to whatever is suggested and maybe broaden my horizons or rise to the challenge! The characters involved are in the over 35 group, if that helps narrow it down.

I don't know....I think sad music turns me on when I write. It gives me inspiration. Any kind of sad, instrumental music. I tend to go along with soundtracks, or easy listening with a nice harp, or guitar. Nothing that you hear birds or waves in the background. Total turn off, and annoying.

I also listen to a lot of Evanescence. They have some good hormone kickers. :D

I'm listening to the Pearl Harbor soundtrack right now, and I'm really anxious to write now.

The whole first side of the first Pretenders album (and most of the second side).

True story: I once was in flagrante delicto with a young woman while this album played on my stereo. Not only did the music seem to express the hot sweaty rhythm of our sex, the beat seemed to enable me to...ah...last longer.

When we were finally done, we looked at each other and said, simultaneously, "Is that the best music to f**k by or WHAT???" And then laughed our asses off.

Seriously, it's unbelievable until you've tried it.

Pretenders. First album. Lasts longer and works better than viagra.

Heh - that's pretty much my Dinah Moe Humm story. First year university, up all night, and in the 3-4 am slot the DJ played all of Overnite Sensation. Appropriately enough, as it seems.

You just know, when you and the woman you're with both crack up in flagrante to Frank Zappa, that you've got something special.

Ravel's Daphnis and Chloe is basically an aural sex scene lasting about 15 minutes. Listen to it and see if you agree. When I first heard it I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. The first few measures might not do much for you - unless you've heard it before and know what's, uh, coming.
Oh! Oh! The song from Gone in Sixty Seconds! You know the one I'm talking about! Someone help me out here!
I dunno, but that title reminds me of "Sixty Minute Man:"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixty_Minute_Man

But for anyone who has heard Daphnis and Chloe, just the mention of it should be enough to evoke the mood. Also, it has no lyrics, and even if it did it's old enough to be in the public domain so there's no worry about getting any rights to mention it in your work.

Elvira and a ton of ladies anywhere anytime-other than that like Kevin probably Nathan Milstein playing Brahms Violin concerto number one or even Franco Corelli singing Nessun Dorma but those would be me spiritual hormonials-for the other I will just stick with Elvira and even the thought of a certain young ladies tattooed bum just drive me insaneical!

Nessun Dorma is powerful! Love it. *sniff sniff* RIP Luciano.

How about Anita Baker? Giving You the Best That I Got is a great cd full of romance.

One more -- Andrea Bocelli. On his Toscana cd (full of romantic music) Si Volto is beautiful. It not only sounds romantic, the lyrics are, too, although they are about love lost.

Oh, Turkey...Turkey, Turkey, Turkey Lurkey......every time that song comes on the radio I want to throw my radio out the window. They've played it too many times, and I despised it before they killed it. It's just sooo annoying that sexyback song. Sorry. :( but I would only play that song if I am torturing my characters because I will feel tortured...

Sorry :(
I don't listen to the radio. Just Itunes and cds, so I listen to it when I am in the mood for it.
Lately I've been listening to Kenny Chesney. (I am going through a country phase right now. Last month was Journey, Fleetwood Mac, and Wolfmother.)

"The Divinyls" album by The Divinyls -- the one with "I Touch Myself" on it, but every song is great. I write most of my really hot sex scenes with that playing on continuous loop.

If I'm going for more playful, "She's Tight" and "Surrender" by Cheap Trick -- really, their Greatest Hits album works perfectly, again on continuous loop. If I'm shooting more for yearning, "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" by Sophie B. Hawkins, "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones, and "Nowhere to Go" and the entire "Breakaway" album by Melissa Etheridge.

Gravy, no. 26-pounder of Jack Daniels and a micky of Jose, yes, cause that's about what it takes to get me to listen all the way through. For the record, neither is served in this house, probably because one left me with such distaste that the image transferred to the others.

:Lecture:for clarification, listen up guys!! "I want you, I need you, but there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you. Now don't be sad cause two outta three ain't bad" (apologies to III who does lyrics much better!) belted out in a girls ear while trying to get in her pants is NOT good form.

Collide is by Howie Day. I lump it together with How To Save a Life by The Fray, Yellow by Coldplay and Delilah by Plain White T's. They're all awesome, mellow songs. Don't quite make me want to do the horizontal bop, though.

The first few bars of "White Rabbit," before Gracie Slick starts singing. We're talking instantaneous "Hellooooooo, Nurse!" :tongue

Wild Horses is a GREAT ONE! I love it.

Also, anything by The Cranberries like When You're Gone, Zombie, etc...they have some good music to write with.

Yep. I've already specified to my wife that I want D&C on a repeat-loop ready for me to listen to on my deathbed. How could you not say a resounding "YES" at the end of your life listening to that?

One more, then I have to get back to doing my real job:

Lullaby of Clubland, by Everything But the Girl, the version off the Adapt Or Die album. I had that blasting on the iPod when writing a scene in my novel where two of my characters have an "encounter" in a bar which spills over into a stairwell, and the tune was very inspirational.
