I've been doing some serious revisioning on a young adult novella I've been working on and hope to get published by the end of the year. Here's a synopsis:
Souls Extinguished is the story of two people who couldn't be any different and how they ultimately realize that in order to find true happiness, you have to be true to yourself.
Jim Traudo, an honor student and member of the high school debating team, is the most popular guy in school. Well-known and well liked by the community, and relentlessly pursued by Stephanie Illiwold, a girl who has an obsessive crush on him, and is so determined to make sure they get together, she's even telling all girls interested in Jim that she's his fiancee, a fact that he finds very annoying. With graduation only a week away, his senior prom in a few days, and a university interested in his enrollment, Jim will soon take the next step of his life.
One day, Jenny Aphrolite, the granddaughter of his principal, steps into his life. A misunderstood punk girl who isn't afraid to be different from others, Jenny couldn't be anymore different from Jim. An outcast, rejected by society because of the intolerance of the community, Jenny's life has been one sorrowful day after another. But through Jim, Jenny is about to discover the meaning of true friendship.
The growing friendship between these two takes an entire city by surprise. Jim's social status begins to crumble as his relationship with Jenny builds. Of course, no one is more dismayed about this development than Stephanie who will stop at nothing to get the man of her delusional dream.
In the end, when the community turns its back on Jim, and Stephanie goes over the edge after he ultimately rejects her, Jenny is given a chance to prove herself an unlikely hero and win the respect she deserves as an individual. Through Jim, Jenny learns that in order to find true happiness, she has to be true to herself.
