there are a lot of screenwriting competitions out there and most peeps don't know which ones to play with. the best competitions draw crowds of thousands so one must enter knowing their script must be better than 2 - 6 thousand scripts in order to win. that's a tall order. and out of reach for most.
however, there are other reasons to enter: the $45 (or however much the entry fee is) review. yeah, you can get someone to read your script for free or you can pay someone $400 to read your script. the results might be the same. the competition is another but many (especially the biggest ones) do not give significant or any reviews at all.
i just received a fantastic review from BlueCat and believe it was worth my entry fee... esp since i've already rewritten and made several changes that they had suggested. i'm that must closer to making a good script great.
