The annual WestSide Story Contest is open to all genres of literary fiction. We're now in our fifth year and happy to announce our recent partnering with the established Berkeley Branch of the California Writers Club (www.cwc-berkeley.com) who is hosting the contest from now on. The Writers Club is the third oldest organization of its kind in the country, founded in the early 1900s by Jack London.

Our merger brought about a few changes, while much has stayed the same. Entry fee per story remains $11. Prizes now are: $250 for the grand prize, $100 for 2nd prize and $50 for 3rd. Prize winners will be invited to read their story at the December luncheon meeting of the Berkeley Branch of the California Writers Club. As always, the three winning stories and, if any, semifinalists and honorary mentions will be published at: www.westsidestorycontest.com.

All entries receive a chapbook in December 2009 featuring the winning stories and, if any, semifinalists and honorary mentions.

Submission window is between now and September 1, 2009.

This year’s judge is Lucille Bellucci, a writer of five published novels, numerous first-place award-winning stories and essays, and the literary collection, Pastiche: Stories and Such. (www.lucillebellucci.com)

Winners will be notified by November 1.

Adjusted Guidelines:

All submissions must be in English, previously unpublished, 2200 words or fewer, professional
format: double space, 1 1/4” margins, 12pt serif type. Name, address, e-mail address, story title and
word count on the cover page. In the manuscript, story title and page numbers only. Electronic and
paper submissions, as well as multiple entries and entries outside the U.S. welcome. Entrants retain
rights to their stories and are responsible for all copyright issues related to their work.

Checks are payable to: CWC Berkeley.

Mail hard copies to: WestSide Story Contest 2009, PO Box 15939, San Francisco, CA 94115.
