Welcome to my webspace + tnx to 'Write' for allowing this personal promational thread! Any of you may browse and/or download as many of the word doc files from the download section of the webspace. I work on-line and also save the files on-line as I progress with my writing. So what you will get when browsing the files are 'processes of creative writing' as they unfold on the screen ... eh, drafts really. Smile!

Include Deaf or Disabled characters or stories in your writing. Talk to someone who knows.

When writing do you think to include characters or stories including the deaf & disabled people of our population? If so, contact me. I'm an award winning technical advisor with a PhD and a member of the American Board of Disability Analysts and have worked with Ann-Margret, JoBeth Williams and more.
go to: http://members.aol.com/accessdeaf
to see more about how to work with a technical advisor.
http://members.aol.com/accessdeaf
http://members.aol.com/redjennphd

NYPD Blue, ER and all the specialty shows have Technical Advisors on salary: on set, in development, casting, editing etc. to show the true and real image of the specialty of the show: medical, police, etc. the same is true when including deafness or disabilities in your theme, story, cast etc. These people are the ones who help to make the shows and films so real they win the awards. Do you think Hilary Swank could have won an Oscar without a specialist in boxing helping her? Do you think the award winning films and tv shows would win these awards without the technical advisors there to make sure the subject is shown realistically? No. A decent story or film can become an excellent award winner with a good technical advisor/consultant.

See full resume's for productions, awards & how to work with a technical advisor.

Contact me for more information or consulting help.

I am the Editor of ScreenWritersRus, the online magazine written by screenwriters, for screenwriters to promote screenwriters. Our url is http//:www.ScreenWritersRus.com (http://www.screenwritersrus.com/). We are conducting three contests for screenwriters. Additionally, I also serve as Editor of the online magazine www.louisianaredcarpet.net (http://www.louisianaredcarpet.net/), that covers the television and film industry. We have two columns for screenwriters in that magazine, one for advice for screenwriters and one that announces contests.

Contest rules are located in the magazine. Our judging panel consists of many judges that are major producers and screenwriters such as those that wrote All in the Family, MacMillan and Wife, Diagnosis for Murder, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Good Morning Vietnam, Anger Management, Amityvile Horror to name a few.

Please help us spread the word about the magazine and the contests. And, don't forget to keep supporting this wonderful site.

Are you allowing members (even newbies like me?) to post our web sites here? If I got that right, then thank you so very much!

My site is a work in progress! I welcome feedback from anyone who's willing to advise me on how to make it better! I'm just entering the marketing/publicity phase for two books coming out in August and this is all new to me!

I'm a nonfiction writer, so don't look for any of that great entertainment that novelists provide--but do look to learn something that might help others in your life!

Just delete me if I've done the wrong thing here--I'm still learning my way around!

Dark Waters: Fallen Knight
I'm pleased to announce that in August, 2005, I will be seeing my first piece of work in print. After four very long years, Dark Waters: Fallen Knight will see the light of day. Fallen Knight is the first novel in a four book series that will someday culminate in Dark Waters: Revelations.

I'm going to be self-publishing my novel under my own imprint, WhirlWind Press. Although I'm going to be very happy to have even only a few people dare to venture into the dark world of Clifton Heights, NY, my goal is to spend the next year promoting my work to larger publishing houses and traveling to Writer's Conferences to try and drum up some attention. In the end, if my work only ever gets self-published, I will be happy to simply see it through to the end...but the life of a full-time writer...ah me, it certainly is worth the shot!

For information and background material on the Dark Waters series, visit its website: www.kevinlucia.net (http://www.kevinlucia.net/). Starting in August, the book will be availible for order through the website and through Amazon.com.

Thanks for your time.

This is my first post so go light on me. The thread made me think of another site where writers can post a link to their site for free. It's at http://www.thewriterssite.com. It's actually also a good writers resource. As many of you probably know, the more quality links to your site, the better your rank in Google. So if you ever have a chance to get a free link to your site (and sometimes even a paid link is okay) take it. Hope it helps.

Here's mine, though it's very new and my geek son is still trying to correct a few problems on it (eg. the word "Extras" on second page). Very few writing samples at this stage, as I've just gotten into this in the past year or so. (I'll be adding several that are under contract as soon as they're published.) My goal was simplicity; feedback welcome...

You need to proof read, dude. reeking vengeance? That stinks!

And should be 'hell bent ON escape', not to.

A writers' site, more than anyone else's, should be word perfect, it reflects on your book.

Looking closer, there are spelling mistakes, typos or grammatical errors on every page.

'Not a sole seemed to be around as...' should be soul. I'm assuming the book will be the same.

Hmm.

Might want to check out the about page . . .
on my computer there is a huge space between "hasn't" and "ruled" and another between "covers" and "a".

Also, when you click to the fiction page from there, your design link is buried by the text. It might just be my browser, but you never know who is looking at your site, and since you design sites, I thought you might want to know since it doesn't look very professional.

On the first page, (at least on my computer) the text is very hard to read because it is partially obscured by the flying man.

The flying man, and all of the artwork is gorgeous. I also liked your typewriter idea--very clever and looks great.

Mike Coombes

I'm still working it, so some things are still a bit wobbly. Would be far easier if all Browsers saw CSS the same way! Which browser are you using?

Richard
02-12-2006, 07:02 PM
Well, there's always going to be a gap there - you've got them down as non-breaking spaces. That's a design decision worth ditching immediately - resizing the text, using Safari, and other stuff like that is going to break the effect completely.

Haven't been to the website in question, and won't argue with the idea that a writer's site should be word perfect (though I will point out that in pointing it out, Mike put the apostrophe in writers' is in the wrong place and has a comma splice, tee hee). Nor will I defend typos and grammatical errors even on my own website's pages (lol). But when it comes to books ....

Unless we're talking self-published, the author may not be responsible for the errors that appear in his/her book. I've had to correct galleys that contained spelling, grammar, and factual errors that were absolutely not in the disk or hard copy I submitted. Some of them were corrected in the published books, and some weren't. It's agony, and I want y'all to know that you should (probably) sympathize with authors for the goofs in their books, not (necessarily) blame them.

Toni, nice site, but PLEASE lose the balloons - they probably seemed cute at the time, but they're annoying and stuff like that guarantees I'll spend less than 10 seconds on a page.

Also, I'd consider paying for hosting - it needn't be expensive, a couple of dollars a week, but you'd get your own domain name and, most importantly, you wouldn't lose 15% or more of your screen space advertising someone else's services!

Maybe it's a personal thing, but I'm always left with the impression that if someone isn't willing to invest a little in their web prescence, maybe their work isn't up to much either.

I have been writing and doing my own public relations so have been really busy. I have started contacting companies and receiving review copies of video games and PC hardware so for those techies out there my page on Associated Content has a lot of new game reviews and PC hardware reviews. I recently purchased a new gaming system and it has a lot of bells and whistles thanks to companies like Logitech and Apevia. There are of course others and I continue to receive more hardware and games everyday so check back regularly if your into computer gaming.

Maybe I'm not a typical case (on account of my site kind of sucks), but I did mine entirely by hand, writing the (godawful) HTML in Taco and making the graphics with the copy of Photoshop that came with my grandmother's computer only she never installed it so I figure it's okay.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I did originally, and then realized it looked terrible and got a professional to work on it.

Lilybiz

I know nothing about design and even less about HTML, so I hired someone. To me it was worth it because I want to make a professional impression. The guy I hired also taught me a little so I can update the site myself, which is important, because if you have to pay someone for upkeep than it starts to get really expensive.

Thank you. ^^; I actually just use black ink for my drawings. Makes it easier for me to scan in bitmap black & white so I can pretty them up in Photoshop. Pencils tend to smudge on my hand and leave a mess, and doesn't scan as well.

Multi-quoting to make a point: a professional-looking website makes you look professional. Mike's work is indeed terrific, and whether you use him or not, my suggestion would be to create the best website you can afford. It's worth it to hire a designer if you don't have the skills.

--look at other writers' sites while you're planning your own, and use the good ideas you see.
--make it easy to navigate. It's frustrating to use a website that's confusing or clumsy.

I have hit it big time with Associated Content. I do my own PR work which means I do all the calling and emailing to get proudcts, and then review them. I started this back in the beginning of 2007 and hAve really taken off with it. I am getting computer products from the big boys now, AMD Microsoft, Toshiba to name a few. I have also started branching out with home electronics and now started in on kitchen and crafts. I reviewed some vacuum cleaners from Eureka and Hoover and am currently reviewing a Braun coffee maker and a Cappucinno maker for Capresso. Check out my page at Assocaited Content for all the reviews:
