I'm having an issue with classification. (Sort of like how this really doesn't have anything to do with starbucks cobbler (never heard of it) or blueberry lattes (ick).)

So: Classification. My novel is young adult, and I've been marketing it as fantasy, but I'm reconsidering.

Here's the thing: the tale takes place in another world, one much like England in the middle ages or something. So definately fantasical in that sense, but there are no magical creatures; nor is there magic. Fantasy, or no?

I think I've mixed something up... Any suggestions?

And by the way, the other day I paid 2.79 for a freaking mouthful of coffee at starbucks - a short latte, and it emptied my wallet! And the same week, I reflected on making blueberry cobbler. I never did of course; some things never dare to get in the way of writing.

I don't think it requires "magic" to be fantasy. George RR Martin's current epichas some odd beasts and many elements that are unusual, but they are not generally magical.

It's a fantasy when it doesn't correspond to a known reality. For example, if you write about 2007 America, but with honest politicans devoted to their country, it would be a fantasy, Even without any magic.
