I'd like to submit a query to Dog World magazine, but their website shows no writers guidelines, no editorial calendar and no contact information specific to Dog World.

I have a phone number and masthead, from examining recent issues. I called to request an editorial calendar (had to leave the request on the assistant editor's voice mail) but have heard nothing back yet.

If anyone has a copy of their writers guidelines, or appropriate e-mail addresses for queries, I would be very appreciative. I noticed that their sister publication Dog Fancy claims to accept queries by snail mail only.

Thanks!
Steve

I don't have any experience with Dog World, but I'd be leery of a mag that doesn't post guidelines. They don't sound user friendly. I know Bark seems very stand offish and says they take up to a year to respond. Yikes! Dog Fancy seemed much more inviting and they've been around since forever.

Hi Steve,

While I don't have the information you're looking for, I would recommend to call their advertising sales and ask for a media kid and/or editorial calendar. If you're not comfy revealing your writer status you can pose as a pr or adversiting rep checking advertising conditions for a client. The sales department should clearly be able to provide at least an editorial calendar. Even better if you can find a media kit with facts regarding their target group.

Hope this helps. :)

I stumbled across their guidelines, sort of, a few weeks ago and for the life of me, I can't find them now. They are very bad at posting freelance information and when I looked them up at Writer's Market, the posting "says" guidelines are available online but they give no website for them. Also, when I did manage to find them, and it took me the better part of the day, they only want snail mail pitches and they don't pay very well.

IMHO, this magazine (and the others they own) are for writers who have the time to chase a pitch to them, meaning, you have nothing else to do but this one article.

I would forget them.

Also, Dog World and Dog Fancy are owned by the same people. I DID find the guidelines (http://www.dogchannel.com/dog-magazines/dogfancy/submission_guidelines.aspx)for Dog Fancy.

Dog World changed some and I'd heard accept much less freelance after being sold.
