whose songs would be on the soundtrack?

I often imagine my story as a film and keep hearing Loreena McKennitt's music in the background. Who do you hear?

I hear some Enya and lots of bongo drums. And tracks from the commemorative CD for Jacques Cousteau -- Cousteau's Dream. It has whalesong in it.

Current project?

Sexy Mancini. Low, deep, and sinister Mancini.

That's just for one character. The others have their own music.

The two I'm working on now would be either like, Enya, or just instrumental. The one in the works would be Belle & Sebastian because they have awesome songs that are content appropriate and ummm they are fantastic.

OK how sad is it that I can't be original and the soundtrack for my book/movie would be a combination of songs from Resevoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump.

A combination of music for all of my novels. I make a soundtrack for each one, and try to add some variety, although usually one artist takes over, at least in the beginning stages. 3 Doors Down and Daughtry if I had to narrow down artists for my current WIP, but I have 19 other artists on the current temporary playlist. Dido and music from the first Buffy soundtrack made the top of my AFTRLYF soundtrack. Right now Five For Fighting and Christina Aguilera rule my other WIP, but except for one of each, most of those songs are competing with songs from other artists for the same place in the plot, so that one is very tentative.

I'm thinking... Newsies soundtrack... and no, that has nothing to do with the fact that I am totally pining for Newsies music. ;)

In all seriousness, I'm thinking some Celtic instrumentals. I've got a good Celtic CD with some really good songs on it. Everything except for the first song which sounds just a little too happy would work for my WIP.

I don't know what will eventually happen. But I love Howard Shore's score for Lord of the Rings. I'd love to have him work on my movie if that's a possibility.

Strangely, I have ideas for a soundtrack already. They came years ago when I started fiddling with a synthesizer (I'm a guitarist). I didn't intend to write a soundtrack, but just found these interesting parts that were haunting, and had nothing to do with rock or blues or the kinds of music I like to play.

I wonder if someone like Howard would ever consider incorporating some of my ideas into a soundtrack if he was willing to do the movie?

I imagine I've Seen Better Days by Sublime as the opening credits for the WIP.

My memory sucks and I can't remember the name of the pianist but the piece is called 'Mary Queen of Scots'. I used to play it while I was writing the scene when the death carts rolled through the streets at night and also when I wrote the scene for a burning at the stake. It was perfect for such dark moments.

... if it were accompanied by a soundtrack.:)

The novel I'm currently attempting to publish is a suspense/thriller... so I hear a lot of the composer, Mark Isham, as well as Dead Can Dance, and or, Lisa Gerrard. My next project (after I write one more screenplay) will be a full-on, epic Fantasy, and I definitely hear something between Basil Pouldaris and Peter Gabriels' "Passion".

Kevin

It would take me forever to list all the music that might go well with all my novels...

I do have a definite "boy, that would be da shit if it ever happened" for one of 'em, though. First one in my series about street fighters: "Crush 'Em" by Megadeth.

Probably Smashmouth too, since they seem to end up on about half the movie soundtracks out there. :D

My main character's theme song would have to be either On My Own or Animal I have Become, both by Three Days Grace.

And the song Nothing Lasts Forever by Maroon 5 perfectly describes the relationship between two of my characters.

I have a playlist for my WIPs, just songs that get me into the mood for certain scenes, so I suppose that'd be in the soundtrack were they filmed.

WIP #1: Mostly Medieval Baebes and Biffy Clyro, of all things
WIP #2: Definitely 'Blue Piccadilly' by the Feeling, 'The Importance of Being Idle' by Oasis, otherwise a lot of 60s Britpop and some Sinatra / Bobby Darin / Matt Monro sort of stuff.

Oh, this is one of my favorite self-indulgent fantasies. To think about the closing scene of the movie with the music coming up in the background and kicking in as the credits start to roll. For me it would be songs from Matchbox 20's More Than You Think You Are CD - particularly the song Downfall. That song captures the spirit of my story so perfectly. Funny thing is, I really hated their first album, but got hooked on this one when I started writing my series.

Bubbly pop songs or bubbly pop-ish country songs. Swelling romantic music.

I definitely need to have a playlist for one of my books these days.

It wouldn't matter, as long as John Williams or Danny Elfman pulled it off.

There was a song at the end credits of The Long Kiss Good Night that has forever stuck with me, and I can't remember the title or the female artist that preformed it. I would open my first chapter/scene to the opening credits of the music from Outbreak. Something mysterious.

I doubt a song would be in teh film.
It just woudln't be the type of film to have songs.
Epic orchestrated pieces with lots of drums an ddramatic choirs and violins and waltzes and pizzicatos and clarinets. That's more likely.

Actually alot of scenes in my books were inspired by specific film soundtracks. Too many to tell.

It would open with a little Black Sabbath, then move to some Hawkwind, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, Rob Zombie, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, and end with something poignant by Cat Stevens.

I never really thought about music lol. With Cursed Blood, I think using the sounds that means danger is about to happen would be interesting in those scenes when death was coming. Other than that, I really don't know who I would want if I could choose. I'd want popular bands for sure though.

Yup, that sounds about right for me. Although I'd like to hear some electronic and rock influences, like with the 300 soundtrack.

To be honest, if ever they adapted my novel for screen (that is assuming that it ever reaches print) I'd be perfectly happy so long as the material wasn't given the 'Lord of The Rings-style Winter smash' treatment.

I would overdose if I saw the trailer and they'd Ringsified it.

WIP1: Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre for the romantic sequences, Totentanz for government-related sequences, In Tarbena Quando Summus from Carmina Burana for as theme music for any kind of addiction and perhaps an orchestical version of The Trial for the main theme

Current WIP: Grandiose Operatic music along side music from Pérez Prado. I only can picture Nino Rota or Ennio Morricone doing this

I did a post on this on my blog but it was mostly about what songs get you into your characters mood. Mine run the gamut from Linkn Parks Numb and In the End to Dave Matthews Crash.

But if I were to list songs that were actually mentioned in the book I'd have to include a lot of 70's stuff as the husband plays in a retro band on weekends.

Philip Glass. Definitely, something haunting and beautiful, a bit like "The Hours"; but should be mixed with some other tune, something joyful in a quirky way, for the dark humour parts.

On the other hand, I wouldn't want my book adapted. It's not a "movie book", and I'd freak out too much about the changes and especially the feel of the movie. But there's no danger of me facing that particular fear anytime soon. :D

For the most recent manuscript I finished, I (swear to Goddess, and I couldn't stop laughing) hear the opening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the beginning, and the reprise, or closing, song of the soundtrack for the end of the manuscript.

Sometimes I like to envision what the trailer for a film adaptation would look like, and "Walk Like an Egyptian" by The Bangles seems to fit.

The WIP I'm actually working on.... a ballad from Celtic Woman.

The WIP burning a hole in my bottom drawer....."It's Your Song" by Garth Brooks, along with the half dozen original songs I wrote (ok, my MC wrote them, she insists I tell you) that will be included in the book; but I'd have to find a musician to put them to music.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool.

I have a playlist for my WIPs, just songs that get me into the mood for certain scenes.

It wouldn't matter, as long as John Williams or Danny Elfman pulled it off.

I'd like a little of both of these. All my favorite music have symphonic scores Star Wars, LOTR, etc. The ability to match themes to characters, Williams' 'Leitmotif' technique (yes, I know he got it from Wagner, but IMO Williams is better) is fabulous and would have to go with my Chronicle's series. You can't have wizards doing battle, love and betrayal without a full symphony. :D Except my preference would be James Horner over Elfman, or (out of left field) Mark Snow's X-Files period.

However, there are also some scenes that just scream out for a particular song, usually because that's what I was listening to and it inspired the scene. Typically Gloria Estefan, Evanescence, and U2 would probably best represent the kinds of rock songs that would work their way in.

PS Triceratops.... Coolest name ever!

I haven't given much thought into it but my novel could be described as a supernatural horror so I think the movie would need lots of Celine Dion to get the everyone screaming in terror, maybe even a hint of shania Twain.

Ok, I'm done being cruel. LOL. I was listening to a lot of Blue October when I was writing it so I think there would be a few songs from them.
Also a few from Linkin' Park and there is this one song that is really haunting but I can't remember the name of it right now. I will have to find it again. I think I would try to find a place for Beethoven too since he is my favourite composer. Another scene could really match Pink Floyd's The Gunner's Dream. So it would be a very eclectic soundtrack.

Same as others above, each work tends to end up with a "soundtrack" of its own. Generally when this happens, I know that the story is really starting to come together.

One just finished includes: "Superstar" - Saliva, "Superman" - five for fighting, "Out of Blue comes Green" - a-ha, "Freestyler" - Bombfunk MC's.

Current WIP looks like it will have: "Chemical Heart" - Grinspoon, "Lithium" - Nirvana (No prizes guessing what the theme of this WIP is!!!)
