This other thread got me thinking...

Has anyone ever edited and polished two finished versions of mostly the same script? I don't just mean an alternate ending.

This is my post in another thread that got me thinking...

What if you only foreshadow it early? How overt must it be? How long can you go without getting into the crux of it?

I'm particularly thinking about a script I'm working on. I changed the ending today. I did this after realizing the new ending is the only possible ending. Of course, I thought this of the old ending.

So, there might be a possibility that my midpoint actually needs to be pushed back to the end of act 1 - condensing everything up until that point.

So, for this, there would be the version as it is AND the version where the midpoint is bumped up to end of Act 1. Wow, talk about someone who can't make up his mind about something. (Gotta give me a little leniency as this change just recently came about.)

But, has anyone ever done something like this, maybe had people critique both, submit both, etc... (not simultaneously to the same place of course)... but send one here and one there... ?

Basking in my own indecision.

Yes I have. I'm working freelancer right now and someitmes I have to do two versions so t hey can see how each would pan out to see how they would like it better, or sometimes I just plain don't like their original version so I polish it up, then do my own and pose it to them as an alternative.

Usually when this happens they pick one that's between the two. They take the elements they like the most out of both.
