Stream of Consciousness Editing

I was wondering how one might go about editing a stream of consciousness novel. A guy from my writers group brought in something I really LOVED the premise of, and I liked his style a lot, though it read very raw. I want to give him some feedback and maybe some resources, but really don't know where to start.

I'd tell him to read it out loud first, taking notes on the passages that are hard to read. I think that will give him a sense of what doesn't work.
