May 9th - Atlanta area

Anyone want to get together for lunch and/or dinner on Friday, May 9th? I'm going to the Atlanta Writers Cub conference, but would be happy to drive up early to meet any of you fine folks.

There's an event at 8pm, but from about lunchtime until then, I'll be on my own.

Well, you know I'll be there! I can meet up for dinner/afternoon tapas before the cocktail party...are you staying at the hotel? I can have a looksie around for a good restaurant that's not too far off.

Oh, and I'd offer my sofa, but I'm about 40 miles out AND I have four kids. I don't even want to stay here. :D

Okay, still waiting to hear back from Perks, but since she's in a hotel in Highlands/Five Points area, and she and I have a shared adoration for tapas, how about meeting up at Noche? (http://www.heretoserverestaurants.com/)

Perks and I have another party to attend here (http://www.thehighlandinn.com/) from 8-11pm, so I'm thinking maybe 5pm at Noche? Friday nights tend to get really busy there, but not until around 9pm, so we should be good.

I think Perks is planning to get to town around noon, so anyone wants to do something earlier, name it! I have a child situation to get covered, so I probably can't go anywhere until the babysitters get home from school.

I might even go back tomorrow to see this guy who posts at 85mph...looking forward to my free Diet Coke.

Well, pictures were took, the waiter took a pic of all three of us with both Siddow's and Perk's cute little digital cameras that also had kid pictures on them (is the digital camera the new wallet that holds offspring pics?). We'll see if either of them figures out how to get a pic up on the Web.

I wimped out on going to the writer's conference party. No doubt they had a good time and met Nathan-the-agent and stuff. There was a quick topic at dinner of "imagine some of the crap they have to read..."

Well, it was a bit of a bust. The Writer's Club had picked this place because there was supposed to be a subtle jazz quartet backlighting all the chit chat. Apparently, and too late for anyone to do anything about it, they switched them out for a Southern Rock band who turned everything up to eleven. And extinguished most of the lights.

So, it was a lot of stumbling around in the dark, and screaming into stranger's ears, "What do you write?"

Still, it was fun. And I'll be meeting up with Jason in just a little while after I go downstairs and inspect everyone in daylight to see if I can recognize anyone I shouted at last night.

Siddow and Ben and Neal were lovely company, though. And they eat and drink and laugh -- just like real people!

I'm going to be at the Sandy Springs Library on Mt. Vernon Hwy. (library phone 404-303-6130 for directions) at 3-5 PM with the Atlanta Science Fiction Society. I'm giving a talk and signing books, etc.

If you folks happen to be done with your conference and want to head up there, I'd love to meet my fellow GA AW's!

We're supposed to grab dinner afterward, and again, I'd love to hang with you all if you make it!
