Book of the month reading?

Has a book of the month reading group ever been tried in this forum?

In case you’re not familiar with this: forum members make suggestions for a book to be read each month, a vote is taken on the suggestions, and once the book is chosen a reading deadline is set. Once everyone has read the book, each member discusses how the author handled the story idea, characters, plot, dialogue, etc.

The idea is to get members to read books they have not read; older books and newly published.

Just a thought. I’m not sure if it would work or not since there’s very little participation in the deconstructing thread.

that sounds like a plan . . .granted i have very little time, but a variety of reading materials always keeps the juices flowing.

LOL, thanks, but the idea is to attract more viewers to the horror forum by suggesting books, voting, reading and then discussing. If there isn't adequate response for book suggestions, I suppose there wouldn't be a need for discussion either.

We'll give it a few days to see if others are interested.

To get the suggestions moving:

Blue Twilight by Maggie Shayne 2005 paperback release.

Saw it in the new bestseller section at Wal-Mart, read the back cover, and decided the dog needed food more than I needed another book. It will be a book I buy next shopping trip. :)

Any other suggestions? Once, or should I say if, we get enough participants, we can put up a voting poll to decide which book to read for April.

Why not create a poll, listing a half dozen or so authors and tally votes through next Friday. Then, set another poll on Friday night, to run through Sunday night, featuring a half dozen books by the winning author. By the following Monday, we have a winner. Then set a timetable for acquiring and reading the selection?

Just a thought.

Liam, good idea. I've never set up a poll, so Liam or Mac if you'd like to do that, it would be great.

The only thing I've read by her was...Lost Souls. It wasn't too bad. A vampire story with a bit of a twist, not too Anne Ricey, or Braum Stokerish.

I once worked at a bookstore (I've worked at 3 total in my life, for those keeping score at home) and the manager and one of the employees were into horror novels big time. They had good things to say about her... it's probably a matter of finding out which book is considered her best novel.

I'm dragging this OT here, but do you know at one point in my life Borders wouldn't hire me? Talk about a low point!
