Crystal-like,
Your effulgent stare,
Searing into flesh
Like white hot fingers
On an icy spine.
Armor-like,
Your countenance,
Un-giving of your core,
Your true omniscient fire
Down below.
Lotus-like, your layers,
Peeled back and
Blooming outward evermore,
Yet still that shallow
Unspeakable indifference,
Glossing the glare
You show the world at large.
Fort Apache war-child,
Never opening, nothing closed.
You are a conundrum
falling from lips unsealed,
and me, universal ears,
continue not-hearing,
frustrated by your liquid stare,
once remembered by others
less divine
as effulgent, a glimmering wish,
but not by me. I can see
through shimmer,
that blank nothing in behind,
that whispered core,
eternal fire pressing outward,
like laughter on a baby’s lips,
babies, those towers of Babel,
all knowledge, right before
the cleansing back to nothing,
Empty in a new language less divine.

He came home
with a thousand yard stare
so vacant and empty we thought
he left his mind
over there.

Was he watching horrors play
across the field of vision
or had he checked out
entirely
and his mind become
his prison.

Year after year we watched
maybe today
there'd be a change
From where he went to
where he is always
and always
hoping
for a change.

Next word: Hope

Hope is congenital,
like a tear
in the wall

Forever there,
waiting to burst forth...
much like anticipation,
but without the whispered joy.

I knew Joy
once
Petite
she was a miss
Never a missus she said

Wavy red hair green eyes
Don't call it curly she hates that

Joy liked bright colors
orange is my favorite she said
Orange is warm
it joys me

She moved away
Joy didn't like it there
a small town with no culture
People speak in limericks i get lost
in rhyme

Small town post office
returns my mails No Forwarding Address
in the big city

Joy never was good with numbers
Numbers don't rhyme.

but your latexed claws left prints
on the scalpel
and the lids of her eyes

were you afraid to see yourself mirrored
julian gray seeking youth eternal
in her seed?

did she grant your twisted prayer
final gasp saved in a clear bag
kept in your pocket

thinking you have her soul
you take it out evenings to check
is it starting to look more like the you
in your daydreams?

next word: prayer

davids

I prayed to a convenient God
dark seedlings grew atop my grave
in somber blissless searching night

A churchbell rang
to wretch me up from peat in blackened bog
my feet so stuck in nightmare's grip
refused to set me free

This dream could never
die-before I woke
that death would strike me down

A scream to ruthless angels
sipping high Dacquiri Rums
who laughed to point
in mirthless fright
a wretched child am I

Buried in
convenient
fallow earth

Listen
there is a rhyme to this melody
You don't believe in music
so i wrote these notes
that you can sing

I have my finger on your beating pulse
you are alive no matter what you think
The mirrored image that you see
is not your tired soul
the lying vision trapped within and trapping
of your mind
Don't trust what heavy lids behold

There are no walls
to hold you in and block the light
and though your voice is weak
you'll part your lips
and mouth this script

You listen now
I wrote for you this melody
because you're free

Sharon Harris put in a good day's work
Steaming along
Boundless energy the name of the game.

The people were happy and warm
Industry prospered
and their children played in the shade.

Then one day people noticed a decline in
Sharon Harris
now aged and infirm, output reduced

Their friend had become a stranger
potential foe
a dangerous quantity among them

What shall we do with Sharon Harris
irreplaceable workhorse
Our gentle giant at retirement age?

They could not abandon their friend
Plaster patches,
Mended again and again - Sharon Harris (http://tinyurl.com/myqzk) still lives.

Carried into the future by hope and fear
Doubts unspoken
Retirement must come and yet - the hour is still unknown.

Retired

It isn't what I thought
it would be;
hanging out
an older me.

Instead a truck
hit me broadside
and now I'm stuck
in pain, inside.

My days aren't
really all the same
they vary from OK
to completely
in pain.

A handful of meds,
an ice pack
or three,
and a visit
or two to the physio
you see.

A trade in of time
is what I get
it's longer...
it's different...
but not over, yet.

Ice dome peaks guarding the edge

Cloak of darkness fading
Wanton echoes filter through
Your name still evading

Shades of fear shadow my heart
Have I been unfaithful?
Did you speak those words by rote?
Was this love deceitful?

Edge of night has fooled my heart
Though I thought me stronger
Cloaked in folds of darkness my
True love lost to hunger

Blade of daylight slices through
Birds of morn are crowing
Foreign letters in your name -
Where's my true love going?

Name

This echo haunts me
bringing me back
to the shores
I once watched recede from view
through narrow straights
looped in garlands of white
and across these foggy isles I traipsed
Their names lost
in the mists of my memory
This load upon my back
these burdens that shift
in swells and falls like the ocean
moving cycles like the moon
lightening and lessening
with the new
growing greater with her
until reaching her completion
and bearing down upon me
my face to the tide
struggling for breath
until at last again she wanes again.

Angelinity

Blindside

it usually happens at the last moment
just as you swore off love, life and the name of god
licked the last drop of whisky
from your last whisky bottle
and dragged on your last cigarette on earth

just as you stand there facing the precipice
the wind in your face stealing your howl to the depths of hell
and you wish you could blow your brains out
but all you got is blanks -
or throw yourself from the cliffs laughing

you wonder whether you'd still be laughing when you hit
the second time and the third and all the way down
you wonder if you'd feel the pain
and whether you'd remember any of this when you woke up
if you ever woke up would it be the same?
would it be anything?

so you ditch the blanks-shooting pistol and step back a few yards
deciding to go for it full speed and jump
and you run
you run and as you lift off it hits you
the answer that was always there
always ready to be found there all this time
for you just for you and you never saw it
until now

isn't that funny - you laugh all the way down
even as you hit again and again without bothering to feel the pain
because the last thought you make out before the lights go off
is to ask yourself
will i remember it the next time?

Poets eat the world,
digest its heart core,
spit back the beauty
of days bleeding.
Onward soldiers of words,
taste the diety of universal beginnings,
flavour your heavens
with his whispered wings.
Regurgitate the beauty,
heave that empty land
from your bursting heartseed
squeeze the madness
back to nothing
but words on paper.
You can do it, poets...
seers of the universe,
mad hatters
with wild word orgies
blistering your pumping veins.
Eat the world,
feed it back
to a willing audience
waiting to burst forth
with the knowledge
of your secret falling stanzas.

our fingers linked in promises

for the devil in me,
entrapping my animal self
with the poison of your touch.
I've been in that palace,
washed up in reverie,
sizzling brainwaves
by the rattle
of your clattering hookah.
I've been there, asleep,
in disarray,
draped in your crumpled duvet.
You, vixen and lioness,
keeping me pinned
in the labyrinth of thought,

Summer, the way you sleep,
languid,
covers shorn,
skin flecked with blisters
of sweat
and me, always there,
always ready to lick
away the memory bubbling there
on your shuffling hip...
you dancing horizontal,
attempting to find

A genial friend of mine
From far across the sea
Once raised a furry wallaby
And shipped it off to me

I’d never seen a macropod
I’d never heard the term
Because the creature was so odd
I thought I’d better learn

I pulled upon his leathery snout
I pinched his furry ear
Which met me with a curious shout
And a strange and surly leer

I tried to feed him tater tots
I tried to feed him pie
But he was such a fusspot
I worried he may die

I called my friend from far away
And pleaded for some help
His reply astonished me
'Why don’t you feed him kelp?'

I must admit I had my doubts
Seaweed seemed so slimy
But I went out and found some sprouts
They were green and grimey

The hungry critter ate them up
Much to my relief
And then he gave a hiccup
And fell down fast asleep

I’ve since become quite fond
Of this strange and picky pet
I’d miss him were he gone
For he is quite an asset

transparent so even when i see
it is a shadow
whisp of a thread with no form

incorporeal
persistent

i thought it might have grown
a thicker shell
if for no other reason than
to keep from being smashed between my eyelids
as i blink
blink-blink-blink a thousand times an hour
each blink shooting it to the center
and across
to another rim
dancing it on the slick of this universe
i have no name for

an idea
of sorts

could be the one
i've been seeking
if only
i stood still

ask herself
how much

the times
you held my hand past midnight
at your door
never complaining i kept you up
rambling
crying over petty things like
money or cheating lovers
or being in a rut

until the words all emptied
eyelids glued together slumped on your sofa
you covered my legs
and went to your room

i never thanked you
and now
your door closed forever
i never can

but should you need
to share a bottle
someone
to hold your hand
and listen to your rambling
until dawn

there is a sofa in my living room
and a soft blue blanket
to warm your feet
coffee in the morning
and no lock on my door

I was rambling
when I whispered
those universal secrets,
pay no heed,
no mind at all,
the newspaper taxis,
they're not just a song
waiting for the incredibly high.
They are there, at the shore,
waiting like tongues
in a whore house,
to take us away.
The rambling, those words
you heard,
you must leave behind,
happy the man
with not the whispers,
he going through life
with a whistle, denial,
a long black limousine,
pull that up to the bumper,
stretch it in your mouth
with amber.
But stay far
from the reaches
of newspaper taxis,
and kaleidoscope eyes.
Or was that, if I may
the girl with colitis going by?

waxed hair
tight to the veins of my neck.

Oh I did gloat that fairy day
upon a high and windless peak
which wondering did I
no breath no life upon this thing
of granite sweat and tears

So jumping off into the realm
of pixies, gnomes and trolls
I found to my delight and joy
a sprite to talk of daily trials
so off its wings did come
as blue bottle flys did writhe
the wings picked off by a deadly child
in evil self abide
to watch and laugh
at fairy pain
the world is as it is

To kill is quick
if done right
but denies the righteous cry
It had to be done so did it we did
a bible plea for eye for eye
such toothless wit
I cry-but what
of tears and fears and peppermint fluff
let us kill them all
for tortures rush
is fun-cannot you look around?
Oh sight is for seeing-aha aha
I thought myself
it was merely for fleeing

Your thoughts and mine
of right and wrong
correct is a better word
cold and heartless, yes it is
but leaves us right, just and proud
to turn away
deny the joy
of love for love
and hate for hate
Oh! what a wonderful time it is.

it fell to me a ghostly chance
never taken for fears inside
she smiled and laughed
what can you say
you call that love's divide?
Who knows my friend
it tickled my heart
that laugh so long ago
that when it stopped
I could not think to feel the pain
when laughter rang out once more.
After long black tears in sorrows fears
so what the hell

we take the chance again
to fill our hearts and pique our souls
