A legend gone.

Something Wicked This Way Comes will always be one of my favorite books.

RDB

Yesterday, while Venus made her last transit of Sol in this century, Ray Bradbury made his transit from Terra after nearly a century of writing and championing books.

Among many other works and projects, he wrote the Martian Chronicles. I was nine, he was an ancient 29, and I wanted to write just like him.

Fahrenheit 451 is the truly scary temperature at which books burn. Dandelion Wine became my favorite drink. The Illustrated Man is the anthology on which I patterned a graduate dissertation. I never missed a segment of Ray Bradbury Theater.

RDB, the hero of books and libraries, is my hero.

This is the first time I'm hearing of this . . . . I don't know what to say

Great man. Great body of work.

Aw, I always loved his stories. His contribution to our genre over the years was incredible and he will indeed be missed.

That makes two of the authors who inspired me as a child who've passed away this year. :(

I know that we have to lose the great ones eventually. :( *sigh*

May he continue to be an inspiration to future generations of writers even when he's gone.

He will be missed.

According to the article I just read, he wrote at least one page a day, whether it was a poem, a screen play, a short story or a novel.

That's a goal worth shooting for.

Something Wicked This Way Comes is one of my favorite books, too. At a convention many years ago, I came across Mr. Bradbury in an elevator. I was carrying a copy of his short story collection, I Sing the Body Electric, and was delighted when he kindly offered to autograph it.

A very nice man.

In God I dwell, especially in Eugene OR
Sat Nam! (literally "Truth Name"--a Sikh greeting)

Back in the dark ages when I was a teenager, I attended a scholastic-type conference at which Ray Bradbury was the keynote speaker. I was inspired by his talk, and went up afterwards and told him he'd inspired my own writing. He gave me a gung ho, "Go for it!"

Wonderful man!

Blessings,

I'm also at something of a loss here. Bradbury was a personal hero of mine. And still is one of my all-time favorite authors. His work always leaves me in awe.

I shed tears when I heard the news and I found myself unable to write a blog post in memory of him.

At least he's not lost, he'll live forever in his words.

It's sort of creepy. I JUST bought Fahrenheit. RIP. The loss of another creative soul is always a sad thing for the world.

The English language lost one of it's greatest masters, one who truly believed in the power of the written word. You shall be missed!

So, so sad. He lived a very long and awesome life, but still. The world is a little less shiny without him. I got to shake hands with him and get my book signed when I saw him speak about five years ago. What a hell of a human being.

It is now official. The world really does end in 2012.
