WHAT IS THE RESURRECTIONIST?
The Resurrectionist is a biannual poetry journal dedicated to modern formalist poetry. By modern I intend poetry that makes use of contemporary language and grammar, experiments with verse forms or that handles contemporary themes.
'Resurrectionist' (syn. 'Resurrection-man') is a 19th century English term for a body-snatcher whose main purpose was the resale of body parts to anatomy schools and researchers in the medical field. The application of the term for the journal is metaphoric and in direct retort to the openly stated assumption that formal verse (or metrical poetry) is a dead and/or no longer relevant art.
