I wrote this for a magazine I used to work at but thought you guys might get something useful out of it.
1: Update Twitter and Facebook daily.
This can be done using ping.fm . It’s a service that updates both Facebook and Twitter at the same time. Once we move on to other services (such as Linkedin) it can handle them as well. Simply type a message in the box provided and include the full link. Ping.fm will automatically shorten the link when you click submit.
These services should be updated multiple times a day ideally. No need to focus only on (deleted) content, submit links to interesting articles and funny pictures that our demographic might like.
Browse news sites like digg.com and reddit.com to find interesting articles.
2: Build Relationships
This is one of the more complex tasks. Check Twitter for posts by other bloggers or personalities and comment on what they have to say via a retweet. Don’t spam links to them, just make a comment that is relevant to what the person said.
Make sure to follow as many local bloggers and personalities as possible. Spend time researching them. The more you follow the more relevant we are.
This can be done with Facebook as well but Twitter is better built for the function.
You can also e-mail local bloggers to help build better relationships. Make sure to keep the tone lighthearted and professional. Don’t waste their time by spamming them. It never works.
3: Submit to social networking sites
I mentioned news sites such as reddit and digg earlier. These sites can be a huge boom of traffic if done right. You need to create an account and both and start simply by commenting on articles you see and voting on what you like. This will help build trust with the community. Then, once in a while, submit a (deleted) story. If the story gets voted on enough, more and more people will come to the site.
In one day the traffic from these sites can get into the hundreds of thousands. Be careful though, you make the community angry and you’ll never get a hit from them again.
Same goes with fark.com.
4: Comment on other sites
Find other blogs and websites that cater to a similar audience as us. If you find an interesting post or article on these sites simply comment on it. When commenting put (deleted) in the website section (usually under name.) If you make enough interesting comments people will get curious and start checking out our site. This also helps with Google ranking and in general does good stuff for the website.
DO NOT leave dumb comments like “Great post!” or “That was awesome!” Instead focus on making relevant comments and add more information.
5: Keep it Simple
This all may seem overwhelming so just remember these simple tips:
Go out onto the Internet.
Post interesting comments and link back to our site.
Keep your writing laid back but professional. Your representing (deleted)
Have fun!
