Welcome to the 500 thread, where sometimes we're serious and sometimes we're silly but we're always writing!

The purpose of this thread is to support each other while we attempt to write each day. Whether your goal is 500 words a day or 2000, or if you're editing or merely want to cheer us on, you're welcome!

Please, no self-promotion for books or anything else here. Keep on topic to writing. Off-topic stuff goes into the Braggatorium or Life of Crime and Chocolate.

How did you do in June? What are your goals for July?

And now! In addition to the regular support thread, we introduce the Challenge. This is in addition to the support thread, and you in no way are required to participate. The Challenge is a competitive race to see who can accumulate the most words in one month. We've done this in the past and it's a blast. Here are The Rules:

The Rules:

1. Word Count is key. No minimum. (example: if you only get 20 words for the day, it still counts.)

2. The person with the highest WC in a day gets bragging rights for that day.

3. All participants are on the honor system.

4. All participants must have a counter or post their total WC somewhere in their signature.

5. Contest will end at midnight EST on the last day of the month.

6. Winner is the person with the highest WC for the month. Prize is bragging rights. Use them wisely.

And that's it. Let us know if you're in, both by mentioning it in-thread and by starting a word count in your sig line.

So whether you're here to write at your own pace, to challenge others to the race, or just to cheer, welcome to July!

It's gonna be a hot one.

Or, er, a cold one. Depending on where you are in the world. :)

I'm in for the Challenge.

As far as June, I did pretty much what I thought I was going do, which is slightly depressing. I'm so glad Doc proposed this Challenge again. It's going to get me moving. :)

My goal for July is a minimum of 10K, to finish the short story I'm writing, and to make significant progress on my WIP.

How about you?

Revising for me this month, and researching/planning for the next.

But to those in the challenge, I offer to you all my personal philosophy and best wishes in verse form:

While the Web can be damned seductive
And the kiddies a good deal obstructive
In July, draft those words
Don't fret if they're turds
And this month you can be quite productive

This month is to get further into my novel, and hopefully get around 35,000 words by the end of the month. And hopefully, finish a short story and start another.

First of all, love the title HJ. Mingling mirth and seriousness is definitely spot on for this crowd.

My goal this month is to finish my current WIP and get it into shape for publication. That translates into just over 22K. (Heck, that translates to an average of 728 words per day.)

As for the challange, I'd have to say that I'm in, so bring it on. :box:

I will say, good luck and I hope it's a good month for you, writing wise.

I'm sidestepping the challenge, but good luck to all taking it on.
This month will be served in finicky detail/editing hell. Also fact checking and possibly writing a prologue. *sigh*

Best of luck everyone :)

I love you guys, but I'm only "in" as far as I'm editing at least 500 words a day. My Buzz editor wants to send me 5 chapters a week, with revision notes, so I'll be rather focused on improvements to keep up with her. This is a very exciting process for me--has to be for any writer. At least so far, we have only the one major plot hole I already knew about. The rest is all tidbits and flow.

And gosh I'm old. She keeps catching my dated references. Does somebody have a twenty-something pop culture pill?

Holy crap! I finally get into one of those things on the first day. Awesome. Normally I only find out they exist at the end of the month.

Yeah, I have no over-all goal with this, just hoping to write stuff every day. Today already, while I've not written any of the actual story yet , I've written 370 words of basic planning (synopsis & basic character outlines). Though it is only 4:38 and I normally do most of my writing (when I actually do some) of an evening anyway, so we'll see how it goes.

I'll say no to the challenge, but as always my target is 10,000 words this month. If I can do it I'll have succeeded six months on the trot!

I'm in!

I actually did amazingly well (for me) in June, with a higher word count than I've pulled off in a year. Super happy about that. My goal is to manage at least 15,000 again for July, but my real, honest to goodness goal that I'm afraid to even say is 20,000. I have a lot more going on during fall and spring semesters, so I'm hoping to bang out as much of this book as I can over the summer. I should be able to get at least halfway through if I work at it.

So for me the challenge is great. I always managed my best word counts when I had a little friendly competition. ;) Am I allowed to do spreadsheets again lol? Anyway, like Ken said, it's only about 650 words a day. I never manage to write every day, but I should be able to average at least that. It's less intimidating when you see that number, isn't it?

:D

In that case, everyone, make sure you put the actual word count in the threads and don't forget! That's how I make 'em.

Oh balls, now I need to figure out a reliable way of working out how much I wrote each day since I tend to drift between projects and back-track on myself a lot.

So are there four of us? Kaitie, Ken, Doc, me, Reservoir Angel? Which would be, like, five?

Mama doesn't do math. Thank goodness for the spreadsheet hubby made me to keep track of the wc.

Okay, on to actual writing.

Starting off on the left foot because of this power outage thing, but I will still win. ;)

My goals for this month:

1) Crush my enemies.
2) See them driven on by me.
3) Hear the lamentations of their families.

:D

Good luck everyone!

Good start Ken. ;)

I would like to be included please. Last month was a disaster as far as writing - got sidetracked on to many other things. This month could well be the same. But I am going to try.
